  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Gets Wednesday off

O'Hoppe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

O'Hoppe will get the afternoon off after he had started behind the plate each of the past three games. Matt Thaiss will handle catching duties for the Angels in the series finale.

  • Nick Fortes C | TB

Marlins' Nick Fortes: On bench again Wednesday

Fortes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

For the second day in a row, Fortes will be on the bench while Christian Bethancourt draws another start behind the dish. Fortes had started both of the previous two games before Bethancourt picked up consecutive starts of his own, so the Marlins still seem to be viewing the catcher spot as a timeshare.

  • Luke Maile C | KC

Reds' Luke Maile: Draws fourth straight start

Maile will start at catcher and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Maile will make his fourth consecutive start while Tyler Stephenson tends to a hand injury. The Reds continue to view Stephenson as day-to-day, so Maile could soon be headed back to the No. 2 role behind the dish.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Remains out Wednesday

Stephenson (hand) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in San Diego.

He hasn't played since exiting Saturday's game versus the Rangers following a hit-by-pitch on the right hand. The Reds have an off day Thursday, so they could be aiming for Stephenson to return to action Friday against the Orioles. Luke Maile will catch again Wednesday in Stephenson's place.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Pirates' Joey Bart: Gets breather Wednesday

Bart is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Bart appears to have wrested the No. 1 catching job away from Henry Davis, but the former will hit the bench for Wednesday's day game after spending eight innings behind the dish in a 5-2 loss Tuesday night. Davis will draw the start Wednesday, but he could be headed to Triple-A Indianapolis if Yasmani Grandal (foot) is reinstated from the 10-day injured list this weekend.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: On bench Wednesday

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Seattle.

He was behind the plate for Tuesday's 3-2 loss, so d'Arnaud will get a break for Wednesday's afternoon contest. Chadwick Tromp will start at catcher and will form a battery with starting pitcher Chris Sale.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Sitting out Wednesday

Jeffers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the White Sox.

Jeffers had started each of the last seven contests (four at designated hitter and three at catcher) but will get some rest Wednesday. Christian Vazquez will catch for starting pitcher Bailey Ober as the Twins attempt to win their 10th straight game.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

    Tigers' Jake Rogers: Resting Wednesday

Rogers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Rogers will get a breather for Wednesday's day game after he was behind the plate Tuesday night for the Tigers' 11-6 win in the second game of a doubleheader with the Cardinals. Carson Kelly will pick up the start at catcher Wednesday.

  • Astros' Victor Caratini: Hits pinch-hit walk-off

Caratini went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run during Tuesday's 10-9 extra-inning win over the Guardians.

Caratini pinch-hit for Jake Meyers in the 10th frame and delivered the game-winning home run. The long ball was his second of the campaign and marked his third straight game scoring a run. While Caratini is slashing .314/.368/.571 with eight runs scored and eight RBI in 38 at-bats, he's been overshadowed by starting catcher Yainer Diaz, who has also been excellent at the plate.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Cranks first home run

Wells went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Orioles.

Wells got the Yankees on the board in the third inning, leading off the frame with a 414-foot blast off Dean Kremer, his first of the season. The 24-year-old Wells has started to turn things around at the plate -- he's now 7-for-16 with three extra-base hits in his last four games after going 0-for-21 in his previous nine contests. Wells is now slashing .196/.338/.294 with seven runs scored and three RBI through 65 plate appearances this season while sharing catching duties with Jose Trevino.
