Padres' Gary Sanchez: Sitting again Wednesday

Sanchez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in St. Louis.

Luis Campusano caught all 10 innings of Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals but is back behind the plate even with Wednesday being a day game after a night game. Sanchez has homered six times in August and had started five of the previous six contests before sitting in two straight.

  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

Rangers' Mitch Garver: Power surge continues

Garver went 1-for-2 with two walks, a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Mets.

All the scoring came late, as Garver broke open a scoreless tie by taking Drew Smith deep in the seventh inning before scoring what proved to be the winning run on an Ezequiel Duran single in the top of the ninth. Garver has gone yard four times in his last six games, all solo shots, and he's slashed a stellar .317/.404/.659 through 23 games in August with eight of his 13 homers on the year and 16 of his 36 RBI. Even with Jonah Heim healthy, the Rangers will continue finding room for Garver in the starting nine as long as he's locked in, either at catcher or DH.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Gets rare day off

Rutschman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Rutschman often serves as a designated hitter on days that he doesn't catch, but he'll get a proper day off Wednesday in what marks just his third absence from the lineup since the All-Star break. With James McCann stepping in behind the dish, Ryan Mountcastle will get a look as the Orioles' designated hitter. The day off comes while Rutschman has been running hot at the plate, as he's recorded at least one hit in eight of his last nine starts while slashing .333/.366/.359.

  • Korey Lee C | CHW

White Sox's Korey Lee: Resting Wednesday

Lee is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Lee will sit for Wednesday's matinee contest after he started behind the dish in both of the first two games of the series, going 0-for-6 with a walk. Yasmani Grandal will form a battery with starting pitcher Dylan Cease on Wednesday.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Gets rest day

Realmuto is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Realmuto will rest for the day game after a night game, opening up the catcher's spot for Garrett Stubbs in the series finale. Unless he makes a cameo off the bench Wednesday, Realmuto will close August with a .288/.333/.479 slash line to go with three home runs, 13 runs and nine RBI over 21 games.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Homers in second straight game

Naylor went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Twins.

Naylor homered for the second game in a row and the third time in five contests. While he hit just .088 over his first 13 games in August, the rookie catcher has found a groove, going 9-for-24 (.375) over his last eight contests. For the season, he's up to a .213/.293/.418 slash line with seven homers, 19 RBI, 18 runs scored and a stolen base through 157 plate appearances.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Knocks solo shot

Smith went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 9-1 win over the Diamondbacks.

Smith has had a rather modest August, batting .247 (23-for-93) with four homers and 14 RBI over 24 contests. This was his second straight multi-hit game, and his sixth such effort of the month. The veteran catcher is at a .271/.366/.461 slash line with 17 long balls, 66 RBI, 67 runs scored and two stolen bases over 104 games this season.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Smacks two-run homer

Langeliers went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Mariners.

Langeliers' second-inning blast provided the Athletics' margin of victory. The catcher has five homers over his last eight games, finding a new level for power in the latter half of the month. Overall, he's posted a middling .208/.273/.392 slash line with 16 long balls, 47 RBI, 42 runs scored and three stolen bases over 111 contests this season.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Goes yard in win

Bailey went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Reds.

Bailey's hit safely in four straight games, and he has an extra-base hit in each of his last three contests. The catcher is batting .268 (19-for-71) in August, but he's hit just two homers over 23 games this month. The rookie is at a .260/.311/.411 slash line, seven long balls, 45 RBI, 25 runs scored and a stolen base through 78 contests overall while providing strong defense behind the plate.

  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Powers up in win

Contreras went 2-for-4 with two home runs, three total RBI and a third run scored in Tuesday's 6-5 victory over the Padres.

Contreras cut the Cardinals' deficit to 4-3 with a solo blast off Seth Lugo in the sixth inning before tying the game in the eighth with a two-run shot off Robert Suarez. The 31-year-old Contreras had gone 13 games without a home run prior to Tuesday's contest, batting just .186 (8-for-43) in that span. Overall, he's slashing .253/.348/.436 with 15 home runs, 54 RBI, 46 runs scored and six stolen bases through 442 at-bats this season.
