Barnes cleared concussion protocol Wednesday after getting hit by a backswing Tuesday versus the Marlins, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Barnes has a contusion on the side of his head where Nick Fortes accidentally struck him with his bat in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday, but the 33-year-old backup catcher could return to action as soon as Thursday. Will Smith is behind the plate for the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Alvarez is absent from the lineup Wednesday at Washington.

Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double, three RBI and three runs scored in the Mets' defeat of the Nationals on Tuesday, but Omar Narvaez will handle the catching duties for New York in Wednesday's series finale.

Smith had already contributed a run-scoring single and a stolen base at that point, extending a modest three-game hitting streak. The All-Star catcher has been heating up of late, slashing .333/.375/.467 with a homer, two runs and two RBI over his past seven games.

Wynns is in the Rockies' lineup Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Elias Diaz is getting another breather Wednesday, so Wynns will get his second start in four games.
