Ohtani underwent surgery on his right elbow Tuesday, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Ohtani's agent, Nez Balelo, confirmed the right-hander had the procedure in Los Angeles on Tuesday, though Bazelo didn't clarify the nature of the surgery. However, Bazelo noted that Ohtani's procedure "reinforced the healthy ligament in place while adding viable tissue for the longevity of the elbow," which likely indicates that the two-way star opted for an alternative to Tommy John surgery. Citing comments from Ohtani's surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, Balelo relayed that the 29-year-old is expected to make a full recovery and will be ready to hit without restrictions by Opening Day, though Ohtani won't be cleared to pitch again until 2025. Ohtani, who is also recovering from an oblique injury that will prevent him from serving as a designated hitter the rest of the season, will finish the 2023 campaign with a .304/.412/.654 slash -- all of which represent career highs -- 44 home runs and 20 stolen bases across 594 plate appearances. Before suffering the elbow injury in late August, Ohtani also maintained a 3.14 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 167 strikeouts over 132 innings as a pitcher. Ohtani is set to become a free agent this offseason and is certain to spark a bidding war between many teams, even though he'll be limited strictly to hitting in 2024.

Belt (back) began a hitting progression Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Manager John Schneider noted that Belt may be able to play in a rehab game with Triple-A Buffalo before the minor-league season ends, but it will depend on how quickly Belt is able to recover. The 35-year-old landed on the injured list Sept. 12 due to back spasms and should still be able to make it back to Toronto's lineup before the end of the season.

Rooker isn't in the Athletics' lineup Tuesday against Seattle.

Rooker has slashed .214/.313/.548 with four homers since the start of September, and he'll take a seat for the start of Tuesday's contest. Tyler Soderstrom will fill in as Oakland's DH while Tony Kemp, Esteury Ruiz and Seth Brown start in the outfield.

Garver is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

The move to the bench snaps a run of 19 straight starts for Garver, during which he posted an .877 OPS with five home runs, 10 RBI, 12 runs and a 14:16 BB:K. Robbie Grossman will serve as the designated hitter Tuesday while Evan Carter starts in left field.

Rooker is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners.

Rooker homered three times over his last five games, but he will be held out Monday with manager Mark Kotsay loading up on left-handed hitters against Seattle right-hander Bryan Woo.

Turner is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers, according to Alex Speier of The Boston Globe.

Turner recorded just one hit in 11 at-bats over the past two days, so manager Alex Cora decided to give him a breather Monday. Trevor Story will serve as Boston's designated hitter and Bobby Dalbec will get the nod at first base.

Ford went 2-for-3 with a walk in a loss to the Dodgers on Sunday.

It was another quiet day for the Mariners' bats as a whole in the final installment of a three-game sweep at the hands of the Dodgers, but Ford managed one of two multi-hit efforts on the day for Seattle. The slugger came into the contest mired in a 1-for-15 skid that had encompassed his prior seven games, and the multi-hit tally was Ford's first since Sept. 4.

Rooker went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Padres.

The Athletics only managed six total hits on the day and Rooker accounted for two of them including their only extra-base hit of the day with an eighth-inning solo home run. The long ball was his third over the last five games and his 26th of the year, as he continues to be one of the rare sources of power in the A's lineup. For the year, the first-time All-Star is slashing .241/.324/.797 with 60 RBI, 55 runs and a 45:126 BB:K in 481 plate appearances.

Cabrera is not in the lineup Sunday against the Angels.

Javier Baez will take a turn in the DH role while Zack Short plays shortstop. Cabrera went 4-for-9 with two RBI across the first two games of the Tigers' three-game weekend series in Anaheim.

Stanton went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's victory over Pittsburgh.

Stanton entered Saturday's tilt hitless in six of his last seven appearances, a span in which he was 1-for-23 (.043) and struck out 33.3 percent of the time. While Stanton's impressive power and high strikeout rate make him a very boom-or-bust fantasy option, he currently owns career worsts in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging over 94 games.
