  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Won't opt out

Stanton will not be opting out of the remainder of his contract this offseason, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Stanton has seven years and $218 million remaining on the contract that he signed with the Marlins back in 2014. It's possible that he could have beaten that number on the open market had he been healthier over the past few seasons, but it's unlikely that teams would give a player with his injury history that much money for the majority of his 30s.

  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mariners' Luis Torrens: Not starting Friday

Torrens isn't in the lineup Friday against the Athletics.

Torrens recorded hits in four of the last five games, going 5-for-17 with two RBI, one run and five strikeouts during that time. Joseph Odom will start behind the dish in his place.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Participates in sim game

Choi (hamstring) ran the bases and hit live pitching Friday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Choi has been hitting for a few days but hadn't done much running, so Friday represents a step forward as he works his way back from a strained left hamstring. Time is quite tight for him to return before the end of the regular season, but it looks as though he could be a factor in the playoffs.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Not in lineup

Ohtani is not starting Friday against the Dodgers.

Albert Pujols gets the nod as the designated hitter with lefty Clayton Kershaw on the mound for the Dodgers. Ohtani has had a very tough time at the plate this season, hitting just .194/.297/.382.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Diagnosed with mild sprain

Jimenez is considered day-to-day with a mild right foot sprain, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Jimenez left Thursday's game with the injury, which was originally called right foot soreness. Adam Engel starts in left field Friday. The White Sox have clinched a playoff berth but are still fighting with the Twins for the AL Central title, and they don't want to rush Jimenez back before he's ready simply for seeding purposes. As a result, he isn't expected to play at any point this weekend, per Scott Merkin of MLB.com.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

Royals' Jorge Soler: Lands on injured list

Soler was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained right oblique Friday.

The injury will bring a premature end to Soler's campaign. He missed time with the injury earlier in September but returned from the injured list Monday, appearing in the next four games. He was evidently still somewhat hurt, however, so he'll be shut down a few days early with the Royals out of the playoff picture.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: On bench Friday

Jimenez (foot) will sit Friday against the Cubs.

Jimenez left Thursday's game against Cleveland with a sore right foot. He'll miss the chance to face the team that traded him away as a prospect back in 2017 on this occasion, though it's possible he returns over the weekend.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Homers again Thursday

Cabrera went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Thursday's 8-7 loss to the Royals.

Cabrera has been raking lately with four home runs in his last four games. The veteran is now up to 10 long balls for the season, and it's the 15th time in his 16-year career that he's reached double figures in home runs, with the lone exception being his injury-shortened 2018 campaign. Cabrera will look to tack on a few more homers to his tally over the weekend in Kansas City.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Dealing with foot soreness

Jimenez left Thursday's game against the Indians with right foot soreness and will be further evaluated Friday.

Jimenez appeared to be dealing with some sort of discomfort in his lower body before exiting in the seventh, and it's been confirmed that he was experiencing soreness in his foot. The full extent of the issue should be revealed Friday, but for the time being, the outfielder can be considered day-to-day.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Exits Thursday

Jimenez was removed from Thursday's game against the Indians due to apparent lower-body discomfort, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Per Fegan, Jimenez appeared hobbled after running the bases in the top of the seventh. He jogged out to left field in the bottom half of the inning, but the White Sox ultimately decided to replace him with Adam Engel. Given that he seemed to want to stay in the game, the injury doesn't appear to be too serious. More about the extent of the issue should be known after the game.
