Mark Canha LF | TEX
Athletics' Mark Canha: Enjoying stellar August
Canha, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI from a pair of run-scoring singles in Saturday's win over the Astros, is now hitting .340 (17-for-50) in August, boosting his season average 17 points to .262.
Canha's current figure is his best since he was sitting at a .333 average after the second game of the season. The veteran has already rapped out seven multi-hit efforts during the current month, and he's just two RBI away from equaling the 10 he compiled in all of July. Canha has also been highly valuable defensively, putting in time at first base and all three outfield spots in addition to designated hitter.

Miguel Cabrera DH | DET
Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Resting Sunday
Cabrera is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.
Cabrera will receive some routine maintenance with the Rays and Tigers facing a quick turnaround for the series finale following Saturday's 13-inning affair. Cabrera saw his seven-game hitting streak come to an end Friday and went 0-for-9 with seven strikeouts in the first two contests of the series.

Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM
Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Resting against lefty
Choi is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
He'll cede first base to Travis d'Arnaud with the Tigers bringing a lefty (Matthew Boyd) to the hill for the series finale. Choi played all 13 innings of Saturday's 1-0 win, going 1-for-5 with a base hit.

Ryan Goins DH | KC
White Sox's Ryan Goins: Starts at third base
Goins started at third base and went 1-for-3 with a walk in Saturday's 6-5 win loss to the Angels.
Between injuries to shortstop Tim Anderson (ankle) and third baseman Yoan Moncada (hamstring), Goins has been a regular presence in the White Sox's lineup over the past four-plus weeks. That stretch of playing time may be coming to an end. Anderson was activated off the injured list earlier this month, and Moncada has played three games in two days while on rehab assignment. If he's not the roster casualty when Moncada is activated, which could come Monday, then he certainly will lose his grip on consistent at-bats while filling a role as the team's utility infielder. Goins is hitting .268/.366/.402 over 30 games since his contract was purchased from Triple-A Charlotte in mid-July.

Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR
White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Belts 21st homer
Jimenez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Angels.
Jimenez took Angels pitcher Jose Suarez deep in the third inning to cap a four-run frame, but that would be all for the White Sox offense in the game. The outfielder is slashing .240/.293/.465 with 21 homers, 49 RBI and 46 runs scored in 87 games this season.
-
Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Slugs two homers
Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in an 8-4 loss against the Athletics on Saturday.
The 22-year-old supplied the only Astros offense after the third inning during the defeat. The rookie is batting .344 but even more impressively, he already has 19 home runs in 192 at-bats. He's owns a .719 slugging percentage, 55 RBI and 34 runs in 52 games as well.

Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD
Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Throws bullpen session
Ohtani threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Saturday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Ohtani's velocity reportedly reached 85 mph Saturday, the highest number he's hit since undergoing Tommy John surgery last October. The 25-year-old also threw breaking balls for the first time since the surgery, saying that it was a good sign because his curveball hurt his elbow the most before the injury.

Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD
Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Gets breather Saturday
Ohtani is out of the starting lineup for Saturday's matchup against the White Sox.
Mike Trout will be the designated hitter as Brian Goodwin will get the start in center field and hit sixth against lefty Hector Santiago. Ohtani had made nine straight starts and was 14-for-39 with seven RBI and six runs scored over that stretch. The left-handed-hitting star is slashing .253/.330/.398 in 94 plate appearances against southpaws.

Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Reaches base four times
Alvarez went 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of walks in Friday's 3-2 extra-innings loss to the Athletics.
Alvarez reached in all four of his plate appearances before being replaced by pinch runner Jake Marisnick after doubling in the eighth inning. The rookie designated hitter has posted a .339/.425/.688 line with 17 homers, 52 RBI and 15 doubles in 219 plate appearances this season.

Mark Canha LF | TEX
Athletics' Mark Canha: Three-hit night in win
Canha went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 extra-innings win over the Astros.
Canha had missed Thursday's series opener with a hand injury, but it didn't seem to bother him at all Friday, as he opened the scoring with a solo shot off Astros start Justin Verlander in the fifth inning. Canha also played all 13 innings in the contest. For the year, the utility man is hitting .258/.381/.509 with a career-high 18 homers, as well as 36 RBI and 52 runs scored across 275 at-bats.
