Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Held out Tuesday

Cabrera (back) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies.

Cabrera exited Monday's game with lower-back tightness -- something that has bothered him throughout the season -- and the issue is apparently still bothersome enough to keep him on the sideline for Tuesday's interleague matchup. Consider him day-to-day; John Hicks is starting in his place at first base.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Leaves with lower-back tightness

Cabrera left Monday's game with lower-back tightness, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Cabrera was pulled in the bottom of the fifth inning. Considering that he was just suspended seven games for his involvement in the Tigers' recent brawl with the Yankees, this might be the perfect opportunity for him to begin serving the suspension. Until that decision is made, though, consider Cabrera day-to-day.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rays' Brad Miller: Hits sixth home run

Miller went 1-for-3 with a solo homer, a walk and two strikeouts during Sunday's 3-2 win in St. Louis.

Miller played like a "three true outcomes" hitter here, as the only ball he put in play went into the seats. Unfortunately for the middle infielder, he's traded in much of his power from last year for patience. While Miller's walk rate has jumped from 7.8 percent to 17.3 percent, his home-run total has dropped from 30 to six.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Stays hot with three-homer, five-RBI day

Buxton went 4-for-5 with three home runs, five RBI and a stolen base during Sunday's win over the Blue Jays.

Buxton will be reluctant to see the calendar turn to September, as the dynamic 23-year-old has been hitting at a torrid pace during the month of August. Following his first career multi-homer game, he is now slashing .304/.340/.543 with five home runs, 16 RBI and seven stolen bases this month. It appears that Buxton may finally be materializing into the well-rounded star that many baseball pundits believed he'd eventually become. There have been some growing pains with the speedy center fielder, but he should be deployed with confidence in all fantasy formats moving forward.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Hits 14th blast in Saturday victory

Cabrera went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk Saturday against the White Sox.

Cabrera launched his 14th bomb of the season to give the Tigers a third-inning lead they'd never relinquish. This was the first time he's hit safely in five games, and unless it's apparent that he's going on an extended hot streak, his .411 slugging percentage hasn't done much to help fantasy owners.

Rays' Brad Miller: Back in action Saturday

Miller (shoulder) is starting at second base and batting eighth against the Cardinals on Saturday , Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Miller exited Thursday's game with a left shoulder contusion, but the 27-year-old second baseman is good to go after getting Friday's game off. He'll face the struggling Mike Leake in his return to the lineup.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Suspended seven games

Cabrera was suspended seven games for his role in Thursday's brawl between the Yankees and the Tigers, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

Cabrera received the harshest punishment for his actions during the fight, specifically for "inciting the bench-clearing incident," according to Jon Morosi of the MLB Network. In total, four players wound up receiving suspensions. It appears Cabrera will appeal the suspension -- the 34-year-old is in the lineup for Friday's series opener in Chicago -- in hopes of having it reduced.

Rays' Brad Miller: Remains out Friday

Miller (shoulder) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.

Miller will spend the series opener on the bench after being removed from Thursday's game with a left shoulder contusion. The second baseman was hit by a pitch, but remained in the game for a couple more innings before getting yanked from the field after his next at-bat. Consider him day-to-day for the time being, while Danny Espinosa fills in at the keystone in his stead.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Returning to majors

Canha will be called up to replace the traded Rajai Davis, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports Thursday.

Canha hit a brutal .210/.259/.410 in 34 games for the Athletics this season, and he likely isn't in the club's long-term plans. That said, Canha has experience at first base and across the outfield, and he'll give Oakland a versatile option for the bench.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rays' Brad Miller: Exits with shoulder contusion

Miller was prematurely lifted from Thursday's game with a left shoulder contusion.

Miller was hit by a pitch on his shoulder in the second inning, and while he was initially able to stay in the game, he was replaced by Adeiny Hechavarria after flying out in his next at-bat. Consider him day-to-day for now, though the team should provide the severity of his injury following the conclusion of Thursday's contest.
