Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins. An 0-for-4 showing in Tuesday's game extended Cabrera's hitless streak to 19 at-bats, the third-longest slump of his career.

Manager Brad Ausmus has decided to give Cabrera a day to sit back and observe, with Alex Avila inserted at first base. Cabrera will be afforded a bit of an extended rest with the team off Thursday.

Athletics first baseman Mark Canha got quite familiar with the basepaths Tuesday against the host White Sox. He was 3 for 3 and reached in all six of his plate appearances.

Canha is playing every day for the A's and has been very solid since the beginning of August, hitting .302 with seven homers and 31 RBI in his last 149 at-bats.

If he is somehow still available in a league, Canha could make for a very nice grab for the final two and half weeks of the season. Canha is playing himself into a certain role for next year and his strong finish might make him a starter to open 2016.

Mariners infielder/outfielder Brad Miller (neck) is in the lineup Tuesday, the Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Miller missed the previous two games, and three of the last four, due to neck spasms, but he'll return to action Tuesday, manning center field and batting eighth in the lineup.

Neck spasms prevented Mariners shortstop Brad Miller from starting Monday for the second straight game, but he did come off the bench to strike out against the Angels.

Miller is in a 2-for-13 slide and has had a mediocre season. He owns a slash line of .253/.328/.393.

Indians left fielder Michael Brantley went deep twice on Thursday, as Cleveland took care of the Tigers 7-5. Brantley's seventh-inning solo shot gave broke a 3-3 tie. He then blasted another go-ahead homer, a two-run bomb in the eighth inning to give the Indians their final 7-5 score.

The homers give Brantley 15 for the season. In nine games this month, Brantley is batting .278 with four home runs and eight RBI.

Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez was in Sunday's lineup against the Indians, the team announced. Martinez was dealing with a triceps issue.

Meanwhile, shortstop Jose Iglesias remains sidelined with a finger injury.

Martinez was also hit by a pitch in the triceps area. He was able to stay in the game, but he remains questionable for Sunday's series-finale, according to MLB.com. 

Struggling Byron Buxton is the odd man out of the Twins lineup Friday in Houston after the activation of Aaron Hicks off the disabled list.

Buxton has just one hit in his last 23 at-bats and has fanned 11 times during that stretch. His average has fallen to .189.

It remans to be seen if his absence from the Minnesota lineup is permanent as the team seeks to remain in the playoff race.

Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera was tossed from Wednesday's game against the Royals for arguing balls and strikes, according to MLB.com.

Cabrera went 1 for 2 with a single and a strikeout before being ejected.

The Tigers are giving outfielder J.D. Martinez his first day off in over two months, as he is being held out of the starting lineup on Saturday against the Blue Jays. Martinez had started every game for the Tigers since June 24.

The All-Star outfielder has been enjoying a career-year in 2015, and he has maintained his good fortunes lately. Over his last 10 games, Martinez owns a .308 average with three home runs and eight RBI.
