Pederson is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets.
Heading into Tuesday's game, Pederson has appeared in the last seven games, going 5-for-21 with a home run and seven walks. Matt Carpenter DH | STL
Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Picking up starts against righties
Carpenter will serve as the Cardinals' designated hitter and No. 8 batter in Monday's game against the Padres.
Carpenter has been the main beneficiary thus far of the Cardinals' decision to demote the struggling Nolan Gorman to Triple-A Memphis last Wednesday. With Gorman out of the mix, Brendan Donovan and Alec Burleson have been seeing most of their starts lately at second base and in left field, respectively, leaving the DH spot available for Carpenter. Though he'll be getting his fifth start in the Cardinals' last six matchups with right-handed pitchers, Carpenter has yet to do much with the opportunity. He's gone 0-for-11 with three walks over his last five contests.

Schwarber had gone 13 straight games without multiple hits but has now done so in back-to-back games. He's produced an .868 OPS with 12 extra-base hits this month. The slugger has hit home runs four times during his current seven-game hitting streak, during which he's added eight RBI, five stolen bases and eight runs while slashing .345/.406/.828.
