  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Not starting afternoon game

Carpenter is not in the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Twins, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Carpenter has just three hits in his last 12 games, though the veteran was never all that likely to start twice in one day. Tommy Edman will be the third baseman in his absence.

  • Darin Ruf DH | MIL

Giants' Darin Ruf: Collects two hits

Ruf went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI in Monday's 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Ruf entered the game in place of Alex Dickerson and made great use of his only two plate appearances. His two-run single in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie. The 34-year-old owns a .291 average with 12 RBI this season.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: X-rays come back clean

Dickerson's (knee) X-ray came back negative Monday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Dickerson exited Monday's game in the fourth inning after fouling a pitch off his right knee. However, it appears that he avoided serious injury, as the team is calling the injury a contusion. If Dickerson is held out of Tuesday's contest -- or beyond -- Darin Ruf and/or Austin Slater could see an uptick in playing time.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Exits Monday's contest

Dickerson fouled a ball off his knee and exited Monday's contest against the Diamondbacks, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Dickerson took a big cut at the plate and fouled a ball directly off his right knee, forcing his departure in the fourth inning. He was replaced by Darin Ruf.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Checks back into lineup

Carpenter will start at third base and will bat seventh Monday against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Carpenter was on the bench for the last two games, likely just as a means of hitting the reset button after he slashed .116/.367/.209 over his previous 15 games. While the 34-year-old still boasts a patient eye at the plate (13.4 percent walk rate since 2019), his power production and strikeout rate have been trending in undesirable directions over the past two seasons. He's struck out in 26.8 percent of his plate appearances and has posted a .156 ISO during that two-season stretch, both well off his career marks of 19.9 percent and .191, respectively.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Faces live pitching

Turner (hamstring) took swings during a simulated game Sunday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Turner stood in against reliever Pedro Baez during the latter's sim game as both players progress toward a return to the active roster. Though facing live pitching is a tangible step in a positive direction for Turner, he has yet to clear his biggest hurdle -- running -- in his recovery from a left hamstring strain. The timeline for his return remains uncertain.

  • Harold Ramirez DH | WAS

Marlins' Harold Ramirez: Out for season

The Marlins transferred Ramirez (hamstring) to the 45-day injured list Monday.

Ramirez's IL stint is retroactive to Sept. 6, so he'll miss the rest of the season on account of the strained left hamstring, an injury he sustained in his first game back from the COVID-19 IL. He'll finish the 2020 campaign with just 11 plate appearances, and since the 26-year-old doesn't look to be a long-term piece in the Miami outfield, he could be a non-tender candidate this offseason.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Braves' Marcell Ozuna: Brings in four runs Sunday

Ozuna went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and four RBI in Sunday's win against the Nationals.

The middle of the order took care of business Sunday as Ozuna and Freddie Freeman combined for eight RBI in the Braves' 10-run performance. Ozuna now has a 1.062 OPS with 13 home runs and 36 RBI in 2020.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Dodgers' Joc Pederson: Dealing with family matter

Pederson isn't in Sunday's lineup due to a family-related matter, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Pederson is sitting against a right-hander for the first time this season, and manager Dave Roberts revealed that he could be sidelined for multiple games. If Pederson is forced to miss additional time, A.J. Pollock and Enrique Hernandez could fill in as the left fielder.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Dodgers' Joc Pederson: Takes seat Sunday

Pederson isn't starting Sunday against the Rockies.

Even with right-hander Ryan Castellani on the mound for Colorado, Pederson will get a breather for Sunday's series finale. A.J. Pollock will shift to left field with Matt Beaty entering the lineup as the designated hitter.
