  • Bryce Harper DH | PHI

Phillies' Bryce Harper: Lands on paternity list

Harper was placed on the paternity list Friday.

He must miss Friday's game and can miss no more than three games, so Harper should return between Saturday and Monday. Maikel Franco was recalled in a corresponding move.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Out of Friday's lineup

Carpenter is not in Friday's lineup against the Rockies.

He sits for the third time in the last four games amid a stretch where he is 4-for-29 with one home run and 12 strikeouts over his last 12 games. Tommy Edman starts at third base and will hit seventh.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Reds' Jesse Winker: Heads to IL

Winker was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday due to a cervical strain, retroactive to Monday.

Winker has been out of the starting lineup since Aug. 15, so the Reds have elected to place him on the injured list. It's unclear if he'll be able to return after the 10-day minimum, but he'll be eligible to be activated beginning Aug. 29.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Sitting Thursday amid slump

Carpenter is not in Thursday's lineup against the Rockies.

He is 4-for-27 (.148) with one home run, five walks and 11 strikeouts over his last 10 games. Tommy Edman gets the start at third base in his stead.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Doubles in loss

Dickerson went 2-for-5 with a double and a pair of runs scored while batting cleanup in Wednesday's 12-11 loss to the Cubs.

Dickerson returned to the lineup after being situated on the bench for the Giants' last two contests. The 29-year-old responded with his first multi-hit game since being activated from the injured list Aug. 14. Dickerson has started just three of seven contests since returning, and while a couple of those absences can be attributed to platooning, it is apparent that the club is treating the outfielder with kid gloves in an effort to not aggravate his back. That said, we could see him back in the starting nine against the right-handed Kyle Hendricks on Thursday.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Stays hot at plate

Blackmon went 2-for-5 with two RBI on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Blackmon turned in another productive start, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Specifically, he recorded two RBI singles, one coming in the first frame and the other in the seventh. With the benefit of his recent run, Blackmon is now hitting .330/.375/.610 across 496 plate appearances for the season.

  • Bryce Harper DH | PHI

Phillies' Bryce Harper: Slugs 27th homer

Harper went 1-for-4 with a walk and a two-run home run in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Red Sox.

The 26-year-old is enjoying a power surge in August, slashing .264/.376/.653 through 19 games with nine homers and 20 RBI. It's debatable whether Harper's been worth the $30 million he's being paid this season, but at least he's getting hot at the right time as the Phillies battle for a playoff spot.

  • Harold Ramirez DH | WAS

    Marlins' Harold Ramirez: Sitting Wednesday

Ramirez is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Braves, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

He is hitting .286 with one home run in 56 at-bats this month. Curtis Granderson starts in left field, batting sixth.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Cardinals' Marcell Ozuna: Hot hitting continues

Ozuna went 3-for-5 with two runs in a win over the Brewers on Tuesday.

Ozuna churned out his second three-hit effort over the last five games, pushing his season average to a solid .261 in the process. The slugging outfielder has hit safely in six of his last seven contests overall, and his on-base percentage during August is up to an impressive .369 following Tuesday's successful night at the plate.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Dodgers' Joc Pederson: Slugs 25th home run

Pederson went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer and a walk in Tuesday's 16-3 rout of the Blue Jays.

Pederson took advantage of Toronto's decision to put a position player on the mound, launching a three-run blast off shortstop Richard Urena in the eighth inning. With the long ball, Pederson tied his home run (25) and RBI (56) marks from last season in 34 fewer at-bats. The 27-year-old has now reached the 25-homer mark in four of his five full seasons in the majors, though only nine of his 112 career round trippers have come against left-handed pitchers.
