  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Padres' Franmil Reyes: Sitting again Saturday

Reyes is not in the lineup Saturday against the Giants.

According to Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune, Reyes is a little banged up, which helps explain why he's out of the lineup for a second straight game Saturday. Francisco Mejia is starting in the outfield in this one. Reyes should be considered day-to-day.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Logs eight innings in field

Carpenter (foot) went 0-for-3 with a walk in Double-A Springfield's loss to Amarillo on Friday while playing eight innings at third base.

Carpenter led off and was able to log four plate appearances for a second straight contest. The veteran may have played his last rehab game after a previous report indicated he'd extend his rehab assignment into the early part of the weekend. However, the Cardinals could opt to give him a little more time to try and get his timing down at the plate given that Carpenter has gone 0-for-9 with two walks and four strikeouts over his first three rehab games.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Delivers clutch homer

Turner went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer Friday night against Washington.

Turner propelled the Dodgers into the lead with a three-run homer in the eighth inning, and it was all the offense they would need to emerge victorious. The 34-year-old third baseman has now left the yard in four of his last eight contests, registering seven RBI during that brief stretch.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Drives in two

Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored Friday against Cincinnati.

Blackmon doubled home a run in the fourth inning, and he tacked on an insurance run in the ninth with a single to center. The 33-year-old is riding a modest seven-game hitting streak, registering three RBI over that span.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Benched vs. lefty

Dickerson isn't in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Padres, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Dickerson will head to the bench with a southpaw slated to pitch for San Diego. Tyler Austin is set to man left field and bat seventh with Dickerson out of the mix.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Padres' Franmil Reyes: Gets night off

Reyes will head to the bench for Friday's game against the Giants.

Reyes is in line for a night off after collecting three hits over the last two contests. Hunter Renfroe will shift to right field, opening the door for Wil Myers to start in left with Reyes out of the mix.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Cardinals' Marcell Ozuna: Progresses to live BP

Ozuna (fingers) took live batting practice on the field Friday, Mark Saxon of The Athletic reports.

Ozuna continues to make progress in his recovery, and he's optimistic about his chances of embarking on a rehab assignment within the next week. Considering he's been on the shelf since June 29 due to multiple fractures on the middle and ring fingers of his right hand, he'll likely need at least a handful of games in the minors to get his timing back at the dish.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Cardinals' Marcell Ozuna: Making plenty of progress

Ozuna (fingers) has made a substantial amount of progress in recent days, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports.

The veteran outfielder is finally starting to see the swelling in his hand subside, which is also allowing his grip strength to return to close to normal. Manager Mike Shildt emphasized that Ozuna particularly made strides over the last couple of days, and that the slugger will be reevaluated by the team's medical staff Friday at Busch Stadium as the Cardinals begin a six-game homestand. While Ozuna's progress is encouraging, there's still no timetable yet for him to rejoin the lineup.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Rehab likely to go through weekend

Manager Mike Shildt said Thursday that Carpenter (foot) will likely remain on a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis "through the early part of the weekend," Jeff Jones of MLB.com reports.

Shildt's comments suggest that it's unlikely Carpenter will be activated from the 10-day injured list until at least Sunday's series finale versus the Astros. With an off day to follow Monday, the Cardinals may be motivated to wait until early next week to bring the third baseman back, ensuring that he gets some extra time to recuperate before rejoining the big club. Carpenter kicked off his rehab assignment Tuesday and has played both of the past two days, going a combined 0-for-6 at the plate while manning the hot corner for 12 total innings.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Homers in loss

Turner went 3-for-4 with a home run in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Angels.

Turner led off the fourth inning with a 417-foot solo shot off Jaime Barria following an eight-pitch at-bat to get the Dodgers on the board. It was his 99th career long ball with Los Angeles, as the veteran third baseman continues to heat up in the second half. Overall this season, Turner is hitting .296/.380/.478 with 14 home runs, 59 runs scored and 41 RBI.
