Byron Buxton CF | MIN
Twins' Byron Buxton: Remains starting center fielder
Buxton will remain the Twins' starting center fielder with Danny Santana taking on more of a utility role, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Although Buxton has gotten back into some bad habits of late -- he's 4-for-his-last-35 -- the Twins aren't going anywhere and they seem content to let Buxton work through some growing pains in what amounts to a lost season. He figures to remain stuck in the nine-hole for the foreseeable future.

Brandon Belt DH | TOR
Giants' Brandon Belt: Back in lineup Friday
Belt (ankle) is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays.
Belt left Tuesday's game after getting hit by a pitch in the sixth inning against the Brewers and hasn't played in a game since. He will be manning first base and hitting in the third spot of the order for Friday's game against Chris Archer and the Rays. Belt has been having a phenomenal year thus far, hitting .301/.412/.514 with eight home runs and 33 RBI.

Andrew McCutchen DH | TEX
Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: Ends four-game hitless slump with three-hit night
McCutchen went 3-for-4 with a double and a homer in a 6-4 loss to the Mets on Thursday.
He'd been 0-for-15 over the prior four games, so it's nice to see this from McCutchen, but performances of this ilk have been few and far between for him this year. His last three-hit game was nearly a full month ago (May 17) and he's still carrying an abysmal .242/.319/.418 line with a reasonable total of 10 homers, but only one steal all season.

Tigers' J.D. Martinez: Placed back on 15-day DL, out 4-6 weeks
Martinez (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday and he is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Martinez suffered a non-displaced fracture at the radial neck of his right elbow Thursday when bracing himself for a collision into the outfield wall. The current timetable would have him back in action for the Tigers some time in late July if he is able to stay on track with his recovery. The Tigers recalled outfielder Steven Moya in a corresponding move Thursday.

Twins' Byron Buxton: Remains on active roster
Updating on a previous report, Buxton was not optioned to Triple-A Rochester following Thursday's game, Phil Mackey of ESPN 1500 in the Twin Cities reports.
It was reported after Thursday's game that Buxton was sent down after the Twins activated Danny Santana, but the actual roster move was the organization designating Oswaldo Arcia for assignment. Buxton will remain on the active roster.

Twins' Byron Buxton: Optioned to Triple-A
Buxton was optioned to Triple-A Rochester after Thursday's loss to the Yankees, Phill Miller of the Star Tribune reports.
Buxton's struggles at the plate continued Thursday with an 0-for-4 performance that included three strikeouts. With Danny Santana (hamstring) ready to come off the disabled list, the Twins sent their scuffling prospect back to the minors. Buxton hit just .241 with 21 strikeouts in 58 at-bats during his recent 16-game stint with the big league club.

Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: Rips pair of extra-base hits Thursday
McCutchen went 3-for-4 with a double and his 10th homer Thursday against the Mets.
The home run was his first since May 27, while his double hit off the left field fence -- a hopeful sign of things to come. McCutchen, who batted third in the lineup for the second straight game, entered Thursday with one extra-base hit in the month of June.

Tigers' J.D. Martinez: Suffers non-displaced elbow fracture
Martinez has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of the radial neck at the right elbow.
The Tigers will send Martinez for a CT scan on Friday to confirm the results of his X-rays. He left Thursday's game after running into the right field wall in the second inning. Mike Aviles took over for Martinez in right, but if this sends him to the DL (which seems like a strong possibility given the nature of the injury), the team could opt to give Steven Moya another look.

Tigers' J.D. Martinez: Leaves game after crashing into wall
Martinez exited Thursday's game with a right arm injury, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The star outfielder appeared to injure his right arm when running into the right field wall during Thursday's contest against the Royals. Mike Aviles has taken over in right field for Martinez while Andrew Romine has entered the game in center. With Cameron Maybin (quad) also dealing with an injury, a loss of Martinez for any amount of time would be an extremely unfortunate development for the Tigers' outfield. A further update on Martinez's status figures to be made available later Thursday.
