The Nationals placed Chaparro on the paternity list Tuesday, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.

Chaparro will likely miss the entirety of the three-game set against the Royals before returning for the weekend series versus the Phillies. Juan Yepez should see an uptick in playing time for the Nationals while Chaparro is away.

Alvarez has been diagnosed with a right knee sprain Monday and won't be available for at least the next two games, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.

The Astros aren't ruling out a return for Alvarez during the team's final three-game series against the Guardians, but the club will shut him down for at least a few more days after tests revealed a sprain. Jon Singleton slotted in to the DH slot Monday night in Alvarez's absence and Victor Caratini got the nod at first base, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see these two continue to see at-bats at either spot until Alvarez is cleared to return.

Alvarez will undergo an MRI on his right knee Monday after an X-ray on Sunday came back negative, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Alvarez exited Sunday's game against the Angels after banging his knee on the ground on a slide and is not in the lineup for Monday's series opener versus the Mariners. Astros manager Joe Espada noted that the slugger woke up sore Monday, although Alvarez had been set to undergo an MRI regardless. Consider Alvarez day-to-day for now, with more clarity on his situation potentially coming later in the day.

Ohtani went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, two stolen bases and two runs scored in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Rockies.

Ohtani's first three hits went for singles before he uncorked a 432-foot blast to center field to open up the bottom of the ninth and tie the game. He's now up to six home runs, seven steals and 15 RBI over his last six games, and he's totaled 16 hits over that span as well. His two steals Sunday brought him up to 55 for the year and he now needs just a pair of home runs to lock up a 55-55 campaign.

He'll be on the bench for a second straight game, and Saturday's absence came against an opposing lefty starter. The 37-year-old may have played his way out of the regular lineup.
