  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Blue Jays' Justin Turner: Placed on paternity list

The Blue Jays placed Turner on the paternity leave list Wednesday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Turner will miss a maximum of three games while awaiting the birth of his child, starting with Wednesday's matchup against the Astros. Assuming he is out for the next three games, his return is slated for Saturday's contest against the Mariners. Steward Berroa was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to take Turner's spot on the 26-man roster.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Mets' J.D. Martinez: Rejoining lineup Wednesday

Martinez (ankle) will be in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The 36-year-old was scratched from Tuesday's starting nine due to ankle soreness, which apparently surfaced because he was forced to try out a new pair of cleats. Martinez has since received another shipment of his usual cleats and shouldn't have any issues going forward.

  • Rangers' Robbie Grossman: Idle again

Grossman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against San Diego.

Grossman is absent from the Rangers' starting lineup for a second straight night, with Adolis Garcia filling in at DH while Travis Jankowski plays right field. Grossman has just two hits in his last 15 at-bats.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Blue Jays' Justin Turner: Heading to bench Wednesday

Turner is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Turner started the previous nine games and will receive a day off after going 10-for-27 with two doubles, 11 walks, five RBI and four runs during that stretch. George Springer will serve as the designated hitter while Addison Barger starts in right field.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Out of St. Louis lineup

Carpenter is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Pittsburgh.

The Cardinals are giving Brandon Crawford a start in the designated hitter spot. Carpenter had started the first game of the series against the Pirates, going 1-for-5 with a run scored.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: On bench Wednesday

Jimenez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Cleveland.

Jimenez will take a seat for the second time in four games, giving way to Gavin Sheets at DH. Since being brought off the IL on June 23, Jimenez is 8-for-29 (.276) with a pair of doubles.

  • Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: Pops 12th long ball

McCutchen went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Cardinals.

McCutchen has cooled considerably since mid-June, as he's hitting only .154 across his last 11 games. However, he managed his 12th homer of the season and second in his last five starts Tuesday, continuing a surprising resurgence of power. His ISO is currently .169, McCutchen's highest mark since the 2021 season.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

Giants' Jorge Soler: Goes yard Tuesday

Soler went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Atlanta.

Soler hit .284 in June, but he had just three homers over 26 contests for the month. He's off to a decent start in July, though his power remains down overall. The designated hitter is slashing .229/.309/.406 with 10 homers, 32 RBI, 42 runs scored, 17 doubles and no stolen bases through 73 games this season. His .177 ISO is the lowest it's been since the 2017 campaign.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Goes yard again

Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional run in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays.

Alvarez has homered in back-to-back games to open up July, bringing his season total to 18. The 27-year-old featured in the Astros' five-run fifth inning, plating Cesar Salazar and Jose Altuve on a three-run shot off Jose Berrios with two outs. Alvarez is 10-for-25 (.400) with eight runs, five walks and one strikeout across his last seven games.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Diamondbacks' Joc Pederson: Smacks homer in loss

Pederson went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Dodgers.

Pederson had gone six games without a homer or a multi-hit effort before snapping both droughts Tuesday. His ninth-inning blast briefly put the Diamondbacks ahead before the Dodgers responded in their half of the frame. Pederson is up to 11 homers this year while slashing a hearty .286/.378/.507 with 35 RBI, 31 runs scored and four stolen bases over 239 plate appearances in his usual strong-side platoon role.
