  • Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Enters mid-game, homers

Grichuk went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 7-1 win over Kansas City.

Grichuk entered mid-game, pinch hitting for Pavin Smith when a lefty reliever entered the game, and he served as the designated hitter for the remainder of the game. His two-run shot in the eighth inning looked like a standup inside-the-park homer, but a replay confirmed the ball barely cleared the fence and hit a chair in the picnic area in right-center. It was Grichuk's fifth home run in 59 games.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Impressive in another brief outing

Ohtani tossed two scoreless innings in a no-decision against Houston on Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out three batters. He also went 1-for-4 with a walk as a hitter.

Ohtani completed two frames for the second straight start, this time firing 31 pitches. Of those offerings, six were whiffs, and the two-way star notched a season-high three strikeouts. Ohtani has given up just one run while recording a 6:1 K:BB over six innings across four starts as a pitcher since making his season debut on the mound June 16. The Dodgers appear intent on having Ohtani ramp up his workload slowly, though manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that the Japanese hurler could work up to five or six innings by the end of the season.

  • Blue Jays' George Springer: Remains hot with homer Saturday

Springer went 2-for-6 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 4-3 extra-innings win against the Angels.

Springer supplied the bulk of Toronto's runs in regulation with a two-run blast to center field in the third inning. That was his fifth long ball through five games in July, and the veteran slugger has also collected multiple hits in each of those contests. The hot streak has resulted in a scorching .545 batting average (12-for-22) and 13 RBI so far this month, and with 16 homers and 53 RBI on the campaign, Springer is already approaching his totals (19 and 56, respectively) across 145 contests last season.

  • Kyle Schwarber LF | PHI

Phillies' Kyle Schwarber: Runs homer total up to 27

Schwarber went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Reds.

That's now 27 homers on the season for the 32-year-old star slugger, who sits third in the National League behind only Shohei Ohtani and Eugenio Suarez in this area. Schwarber has now recorded at least one hit in 11 of his last 16 games as well. During that span, he's slashing a potent .276/.400/.569 with five long balls, two doubles, nine RBI and three stolen bases covering 70 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Trenton Brooks: Idle Saturday

Brooks isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Texas.

Brooks will step out of the starting nine after going 2-for-4 with a double Friday, breaking what had been an 0-for-11 skid. Luis Arraez will serve as San Diego's designated hitter Saturday while Jake Cronenworth starts at first base and Jose Iglesias gets the starting nod at second.

  • Kyle Manzardo 1B | CLE

    Guardians' Kyle Manzardo: Resting Saturday

Manzardo isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers.

After going 0-for-5 in Friday's series opener, Manzardo will take a day off to regroup while Jose Ramirez works as Cleveland's DH. Daniel Schneemann will move to third base as a result, and Angel Martinez will start at second.

  • Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Returning during homestand

Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Yoshida (shoulder) will return from the injured list during Boston's upcoming homestand, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

The Boston skipper didn't say exactly when Yoshida will be activated, but his comments confirm that the 31-year-old outfielder will return before the All-Star break. However, it's unclear what kind of role Yoshida will play upon his return, as the team is already juggling five outfielders on its active roster.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Not starting Saturday

Stanton isn't in the starting lineup Saturday against the Mets.

It's Stanton's second absence in New York's past three games. The slugger has gone just 3-for-23 over his past seven contests, and the Yankees may be looking for a spark elsewhere while in the midst of a rough stretch as a team. Ben Rice is getting a turn at DH in Stanton's stead Saturday.

  • Blue Jays' Anthony Santander: Could swing bat next week

Santander (shoulder) could begin swinging a bat late next week, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

The 30-year-old slugger has been on the shelf since May 30 due to a shoulder issue and just got shifted to the 60-day IL, ensuring he'll be unavailable until at least the end of July, but he's close to ramping up his activity level. The Blue Jays have gotten very little from Santander so far after signing him to a five-year, $92.5 million contract this winter, but he could yet provide a boost to the offense for the stretch run.

  • Seiya Suzuki RF | CHC

Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Goes deep in rout

Suzuki went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 11-3 win over the Cardinals.

Suzuki was overshadowed a bit by Pete Crow-Armstrong, who had two home runs in the game, as well as Michael Busch, who went deep three times. However, the former still managed to provide some fireworks of his own, and he's now up to 24 long balls, which leads the team and is good for sixth in the majors. Suzuki has gone deep six times over his last 12 games, during which time he also has a robust 1.115 OPS.
