Heasley allowed two hits and three walks over 6.2 shutout frames against the Red Sox on Friday. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision.

Heasley was in line for a win before Boston came back and took the lead in the eighth inning. He produced 10 swinging strikes, his highest total since forcing a season-high 13 against Texas on May 12. The 25-year-old righty is now sporting a 5.09 ERA on the year, though he's registered a solid 3.86 ERA over his last six starts. Heasley is expected to face the Twins at home next week.

Strahm walked one batter and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn a save over the Royals on Friday.

Strahm worked around a two-out walk to finish out the 2-1 victory, picking up his fourth save of the year and first since June 8. He'd blown three straight save chances since that last conversion despite posting a 2.57 ERA over his previous 22 appearances. While Strahm worked the ninth inning, Garrett Whitlock pitched in the eighth and both Matt Barnes and John Schreiber got the night off.

Brieske (biceps) threw a bullpen session Friday with no issues, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

The right-hander has been sidelined by forearm soreness and biceps tendinitis since late July, but it appears he's now fully past the injuries. The Tigers must now decide whether to continue ramping up Brieske's workload so he can either take the mound over the final couple weeks of the season or transition straight to his offseason program. The 24-year-old had a 4.19 ERA in 15 starts for Detroit prior to the injuries, but even if he returns this year, he won't be built up enough to reclaim that role.

Effross (shoulder) is scheduled to make a rehab outing with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

Effross recently threw 20 pitches against live hitters, clearing the way for the start of a rehab assignment. The 28-year-old could be activated from the injured list as early as Tuesday if all goes well with the RailRiders this weekend.

Moll hit the injured list with a left shoulder strain Friday.

Moll will technically be eligible to return for the final six days of the season, but it's quite possible he's done for the year. Jared Koenig was recalled to take his place on the roster.

Weber was designated for assignment Friday.

He gave up three hits and struck out one over three scoreless innings of relief since getting his contract selected earlier this month. Weber likely won't return to the majors again this year.

Chapman (leg) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list prior to Friday's game against the Brewers.

Clay Holmes has a 2.89 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 10:1 K:BB in 9.1 innings since regaining the closer's role in late August. Chapman, who struck out five and walked two in two scoreless rehab innings, may get some save chances, but they could be few and far between.

Martinez was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Martinez was called up by the Astros in late August, and he allowed five hits and a walk while striking out seven in six scoreless innings over six relief appearances in the majors. In spite of his effectiveness, the right-hander will return to Sugar Land after Justin Verlander (calf) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Friday.

Wells (elbow) was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports.

Wells has missed most of the season due to an elbow sprain he suffered in late April. While he's now healthy, the Orioles didn't think he deserved a 40-man roster spot, but he's passed through waivers unclaimed and will remain part of the organization.

Vargas was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Vargas spent plenty of time at Double-A Akron earlier in the year after returning to full health following Tommy John surgery that he underwent in April of 2021. However, he was promoted to the Triple-A club at the beginning of September and allowed a run on four hits and two walks while striking out 12 in six innings over four relief appearances. The right-hander will likely serve as a multi-inning option out of Cleveland's bullpen, and his first appearance with the Guardians will be his major-league debut.
