Pivetta was removed from Friday's game against the Rangers due to a left calf contusion, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Pivetta sustained his injury while fielding a grounder in the top of the third inning Friday, and he was replaced to begin the fourth frame. The right-hander will presumably be monitored further before the Red Sox determine his status for his next start. If Pivetta is cleared to pitch, he tentatively lines up to start on the road against Tampa Bay on Wednesday.

Pivetta exited Friday's start against the Rangers after the third inning due to an apparent lower body injury, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Pivetta fielded a grounder to make the second out in the top of the third inning and was able to remain on the mound to finish the frame, but he limped off the field and was ultimately replaced to begin the fourth. Prior to his departure, he allowed a run on four hits and two walks while striking out two in three innings. The extent of his injury isn't yet known, and it's unclear whether he'll be able to make his next start.

Chapman (leg) threw Friday for the first time since landing on the injured list, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.

Chapman landed on the injured Saturday due to a leg infection, an issue which developed after he got a new tattoo. He expects to advance to a bullpen session within a day or two. He could potentially add to his nine saves once healthy, but that would require a return to his previous form in addition to a return to full health. It might also require a collapse from Clay Holmes, who returned from a back injury Monday.

Manager Mike Matheny said Friday that he expects Castillo to start Sunday's game against the Tigers, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

Castillo was sent down by the Royals on Aug. 20, but he should rejoin the major-league club for Sunday's series finale in Detroit. While the Royals have some off days over the next few weeks that could allow them to use a five-man rotation, Castillo should have a chance to earn additional starts after he posted a 2.81 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 25.2 innings over 10 appearances (three starts) in the majors earlier this year.

Manager Kevin Cash said Friday that Feyereisen recently felt additional discomfort in his shoulder and is "highly unlikely" to return this season, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The 29-year-old has been sidelined with a pinched nerve in his shoulder since early June, and it appears he won't return to the mound this season. Feyereisen didn't allow an earned run over 24.1 innings before landing on the shelf, and it's unclear if he's expected to be ready for the start of spring training next year.

Bummer (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

The move creates space for the White Sox to select Mark Payton's contract. It should have minimal impact on Bummer's return timeline, as he's eligible to return as soon as Saturday. He might not be ready quite that quickly, but he shouldn't be out too much longer, as he began a rehab assignment Tuesday.

Kelly will start Friday's game against the Twins, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Kelly has surrendered eight runs over his past six outings but will be called upon to open Friday's contest. Davis Martin, who was previously expected to start Friday, is likely to follow Kelly as the primary pitcher, though Chicago hasn't officially announced its pitching plans.

Curry was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Friday and could start Saturday against the Mariners, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

The Guardians have yet to announce a Saturday starter, but the 24-year-old righty is up as a corresponding move after Saturday's originally scheduled starter Aaron Civale was placed on the injured list due to forearm inflammation, and Curry and Civale were on the same pitching schedule. Curry made his big-league debut Aug. 15 against Detroit and gave up three earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out three in five innings. He has a 4.21 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB in 51.1 innings over his last 10 starts in the minors.

Morris is starting Friday's game against the Mariners, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Despite already being 25 and coming with some durability concerns, Morris is one of the most exciting pitching prospects in the game. He boasts several plus pitches and logged a 1.69 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 39 strikeouts in 21.1 innings across nine rehab appearances after missing most of the season with a shoulder injury. He has yet to throw more than 3.1 innings in any outing this season after missing most of the first half with shoulder issues, however, so he may not be able to provide much length in Friday's start.

Mengden was designated for assignment by the Royals on Friday.

The decision to remove Mengden from the 40-man roster comes just one day after he was called up to start against the White Sox. He picked up the loss after allowing three earned runs over 2.2 innings and is now headed out of Kansas City. He will likely finish the season in Triple-A should he clear waivers and remain with the organization.
