  • Will Vest RP | DET

Tigers' Will Vest: Nabs four-out save

Vest picked up a four-out save, allowing one hit and one walk while also picking up a strikeout, during Friday's 2-1 win over the Guardians.

Vest worked more than an inning for the first time in his past nine appearances. The 30-year-old put out a fire in the bottom of the eighth, then worked around allowing a baserunner in the ninth on his way to his 14th save in 17 tries this year. The right-hander picked up at least one strikeout in his ninth straight outing for a total of 12 in his last 8.2 innings. Vest hasn't surrendered a run in five straight appearances, and his ERA is now at 2.25 for the season.

  • Jordan Weems RP | HOU

Astros' Jordan Weems: Designated for assignment

The Astros designated Weems for assignment Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Since joining the active roster June 24, Weems has made two appearances for Houston, giving up two runs across three total innings. He'll now lose his spot on the 26-man and 40-man rosters in favor of Jason Alexander, who was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move.

  • Justin Bruihl RP | STL

Blue Jays' Justin Bruihl: Bumped from active roster

The Blue Jays optioned Bruihl to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.

Bruihl pitched a scoreless one-third of an inning to earn a hold in Thursday's win over the Yankees, bringing his ERA down to 2.70 in four appearances with the big club this season. The lefty will presumably be back in Toronto before the end of 2025, but for now he will make room for right-hander Lazaro Estrada, who can provide more length out of the bullpen.

  • Fraser Ellard RP | CHW

White Sox's Fraser Ellard: Reinstated, optioned to Triple-A

The White Sox reinstated Ellard (lat) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

Ellard held his opponents scoreless in each of his final five rehab appearances with Charlotte, but the White Sox will need to see more before returning the lefty to the major-league roster. He made seven appearances out of the Chicago bullpen before going down with the lat injury, posting a 6.75 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 6.2 innings.

  • Zack Kelly RP | BOS

Red Sox's Zack Kelly: Placed on 15-day IL

Kelly (oblique) was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday, and his prior option to Triple-A Worcester was rescinded, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Kelly tweaked his right oblique Sunday, and since he suffered the injury in the majors prior to getting optioned Monday, he'll get to spend his recovery on the big-league IL. The 30-year-old righty has a 5.56 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 25:9 K:BB in 22.2 innings with the big club.

  • Yankees' Jayvien Sandridge: Back in majors

The Yankees recalled Sandridge from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

The 26-year-old was optioned to Triple-A on June 22 but will quickly return to the majors as Clarke Schmidt (forearm) heads to the injured list. Sandridge has given up just one earned run with a 19:5 K:BB across 10.1 innings with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season and is looking to make his MLB debut.

  • Scott Effross RP | NYY

    Yankees' Scott Effross: Promoted Friday

The Yankees recalled Effross from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

The right-hander has spent the past couple weeks with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre but will rejoin the Yankees ahead of Friday's series opener versus the Mets. Effross delivered a scoreless frame in his lone appearance of the season for the Yankees on June 17.

  • Ryan Burr RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Ryan Burr: May be ready for activation

Burr (shoulder) struck out two in a scoreless inning for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.

The righty reliever has a 3.52 ERA and an 11:5 K:BB over 7.2 Triple-A innings during his rehab stint, and he appears just about ready to come off the 60-day IL. Burr has yet to pitch in the majors this season after shoulder issues cropped up during spring training, but he could provide a boost to a Blue Jays bullpen that has handled a heavy workload in the first half. Over 32.2 innings for Toronto in 2024, Burr posted a 4.13 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 47:12 K:BB.

  • Joey Cantillo SP | CLE

Guardians' Joey Cantillo: Holds Cubs in check in no-decision

Cantillo didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Cubs, giving up two hits and three walks in 3.1 scoreless innings. He struck out five.

The 25-year-old left-hander was summoned from the minor leagues Thursday and plugged into the rotation, and he was able to keep a tough Chicago lineup in check despite not being fully stretched out. Cantillo was lifted after throwing a season-high 68 pitches in his first big-league start of the season, and he owns a serviceable 3.41 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 41:17 K:BB over 31.2 frames for the Guardians. With Luis L. Ortiz placed on non-disciplinary paid leave as part of an MLB gambling investigation, Cantillo's next start lines up for a stiff challenge against the Astros in Houston.

  • Royals' Carlos Estevez: Allows homer in four-out save

Estevez allowed one run on three hits and struck out two without walking a batter over 1.1 innings, earning the save in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Mariners.

Estevez got the last out of the eighth inning, but he found some trouble after Dominic Canzone led off the ninth with a solo shot to cut the Royals' lead to one. Estevez allowed two more singles, and a wild pitch put both runners in scoring position, but he struck out Julio Rodriguez and got Cal Raleigh to ground out, ending the threat. Despite allowing the homer, it doesn't get much more clutch than what Estevez pulled off. He's converted seven straight saves since his blown save in the first game of a June 5 doubleheader versus the Cardinals, though he has allowed three solo home runs over 10.1 innings since then. Overall, Estevez is at a 2.19 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 32:14 K:BB while converting 24 of 27 save chances this year.
