  • Rays' Andrew Kittredge: Dealing with elbow soreness

Kittredge exited Tuesday's game against the Red Sox with right elbow soreness, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

The 30-year-old was only five pitches into his start when he was removed with the injury. Kittredge should be considered day-to-day until more information is available on the injury, but he figures to be unavailable for at least a couple days while being evaluated.

  • Rays' Andrew Kittredge: Early exit Tuesday

Kittredge was removed from Tuesday's game against the Red Sox with an apparent injury, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander allowed one hit and recorded one out in five pitches during his start before being removed with apparent discomfort in his throwing arm. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, but the team should provide an official update as he's evaluated.

  • Jimmy Herget RP | COL

Rangers' Jimmy Herget: Optioned to alternate camp

Herget was optioned to the Rangers' alternate training site Tuesday.

Herget was inconsistent in relief after his contract was selected by the Rangers at the end of July, and he'll be removed from the 28-man roster after allowing three runs on three hits and two walks while recording just two outs Monday. Given his lack of results at the major-league level, it's unclear whether he'll return to the big leagues during the abbreviated 2020 season.

  • Josh Taylor RP | KC

Red Sox's Josh Taylor: Could return next week

Manager Ron Roenicke said Tuesday that Taylor (not injury related) could be about a week away from his return, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Taylor has been building up at the alternate training site in Pawtucket after missing most of camp due to a positive COVID-19 test. He should take on a middle relief role in Boston once he's ready to return. The southpaw posted a 3.04 ERA and 62:16 K:BB over 47.1 innings across 52 appearances (one start) in his first major-league season in 2019.

  • Brooks Raley RP | PHI

Astros' Brooks Raley: Activated by Houston

Raley was activated by the Astros on Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Raley was traded to the Astros on Sunday, and he'll officially join the major-league bullpen following Tuesday's move. The southpaw probably won't be tasked with many important innings. To make room for Raley on the active roster, right-hander Carlos Sanabria was optioned to the team's alternate training site.

  • Jose Alvarado RP | PHI

Rays' Jose Alvarado: Used in setup role Monday

Alvarado (personal), who was activated from the paternity list earlier in the day, was credited with a hold in a win over the Red Sox on Monday. He allowed one hit and one walk over a scoreless two-thirds of an inning.

The hard-throwing left-hander inherited a two-on, two-out situation in the eighth inning and initially made the situation thornier by issuing a walk to Christian Vazquez and yielding a two-run single to Jonathan Arauz. However, Alvarado then avoided further damage by inducing a fielder's choice groundout from Kevin Pillar and preserving the Rays' 8-7 lead in the process. Alvarado recorded a strikeout to open the ninth as well before yielding to Andrew Kittredge for the save, and despite the somewhat rocky outing, he managed to lower his ERA to 2.84 since the pair of runs he allowed were charged to Peter Fairbanks. Alvarado has thus far made good overall on his pledge to bounce back from last season's inconsistency, but he's notably yet to log a save opportunity.

  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Blue Jays' Ken Giles: Set for another MRI

Giles will get his strained right forearm checked out again Wednesday and will undergo another MRI, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

Giles has been shut down from throwing for two weeks, though he's nearing the end of that period. The previous news regarding his injury was considered encouraging, as he was diagnosed with merely a mild strain of the flexor mass in his right forearm at the end of July. If he receives more good news following Wednesday's MRI, he could resume throwing soon.

  • Aaron Loup RP | LAA

Rays' Aaron Loup: Nabs first win Monday

Loup (1-0) was credited with the victory in a win over the Red Sox on Monday, allowing one hit over a scoreless inning while recording three strikeouts.

The veteran southpaw recorded whiffs of Jackie Bradley, Kevin Pillar and Alex Verdugo, the latter two on swinging strikeouts. Loup has been a dependable relief asset for manager Kevin Cash thus far, posting five scoreless efforts in as many appearances (5.1 innings) while generating a 7:2 K:BB.

  • Lou Trivino RP | PHI

Athletics' Lou Trivino: Blown save against Angels

Trivino was charged with a blown save Monday against the Angels, giving up two runs on two hits while striking out two in two innings.

Trivino has been hit or miss this season, notching two scoreless appearances but giving up five earned runs in his other two outings. As such, the 28-year-old has a 9.00 ERA in five innings this season. He might be confined to low-leverage situations until he can turn things around.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Struggles in no-decision

Manaea didn't factor into the decision in Monday's contest between the Athletics and the Angels. He allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks while fanning one in 2.2 innings.

Manaea has not completed five innings in any of his four starts and has been struggling so far, giving up four earned runs in three of those outings. Things have not gone as expected for the 28-year-old, who owns a 9.00 ERA and 1.87 WHIP -- both career-worst marks by a wide margin -- ahead of this next scheduled start Aug. 16 at San Francisco.
