Rosa was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Tuesday.

A 40-man spot was needed after Ben Heller (elbow) gained clearance to return from the 60-day IL, and Rosa was the roster casualty. Rosa made one appearance for the big club back in August. He split the bulk of the season between Double-A and Triple-A, posting a 4.18 ERA and 1.35 WHIP across 103.1 total minor-league innings. The 24-year-old will now be subjected to waivers.

Heller (forearm) was activated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

The right-hander had been back with the club for a few days and is now officially back on the major-league roster for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery early in 2018. Heller pitched brilliantly after resuming a rehab assignment last month, allowing one run on three hits and three walks while fanning 13 in nine innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre. On this team, he should be considered on the bubble for 2020.

Jurado is listed as the starter for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

He has been following an opener (Edinson Volquez) of late, but as of Tuesday it seems like Jurado will get a true start in his next outing. The 23-year-old righty has a 5.40 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 78 strikeouts in 116.2 innings this season.

McHugh (elbow) has yet to resume throwing, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

McHugh landed on the 10-day injured list with an elbow issue at the end of August. He reportedly hasn't progressed like the Astros hoped, leaving his potential return date unclear.

Green (3-4) was the pitcher of record in Sunday's 10-5 win over the Red Sox after tossing three perfect innings in relief and striking out five.

Green's ERA still sits at 4.60 after the flawless showing, but the righty has generally performed as expected since the beginning of June. In his 31 appearances over the past three-plus months, Green has supplied a 2.58 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 64 strikeouts in 45.1 innings. The Yankees have deployed him as an opener 13 times this season, and he could fill that role again Tuesday in Detroit. After Sunday's 37-pitch outing, Green probably wouldn't be asked to cover more than an inning or two, however.

Betances (lat) is scheduled to make his next rehab appearance Tuesday for Double-A Trenton, Kyle Franko of The Trentonian reports.

Betances looked good in his first rehab outing with Trenton on Friday, when he tossed a scoreless inning and struck out a batter. The right-hander could make another rehab appearance or two for Trenton after Tuesday as the Yankees look to assess whether he's fit to join the big-league bullpen. Since he's been on the shelf all season, Betances may not be thrust into a high-leverage role right away if he is eventually reinstated to the Yankees' roster.

Baumann has posted a 2.31 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 65:21 K:BB across 70 innings with Double-A Bowie since receiving a promotion from High-A Frederick in late June.

Impressively, the 23-year-old right-hander has shaved more than a run and a half off the ERA he turned in at Frederick (3.83), a development that has helped him emerge as one of the better advanced arms in the Baltimore system. He'll be on the mound Tuesday for what could be his final appearance of the season as Bowie faces off against Trenton in Game 1 of the Eastern League Championship Series.

Richards (2-0) was credited with the win in a victory over the Blue Jays on Sunday, allowing one hit and recording two strikeouts over 2.2 scoreless innings.

Richards took over for starter Tyler Glasnow after two innings and ultimately was able to nab the victory as the unofficial "bulk reliever" in what was essentially a bullpen day game. Richards has largely proven effective in whichever role he's been deployed in by manager Kevin Cash thus far, and Sunday's scoreless multi-inning effort whittled down his ERA since arriving in Tampa to an impressive 2.33 across 19.1 innings.

Heller (forearm) will be activated by the Yankees on Tuesday or Wednesday, Randy Miller of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Heller is currently with the team for its series in Boston but has not been officially activated. He threw 30 pitches in a Triple-A rehab outing for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, so the Yankees are likely waiting until he is ready to pitch again before making the move official. Heller has not pitched in the majors since 2017 as a result of a lengthy recovery from Tommy John surgery and a subsequent right forearm strain.

Barria (4-8) allowed two runs on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts across 4.1 innings while taking a loss during a relief appearance against the White Sox on Sunday.

The 23-year-old entered in the first after the opener and recorded the final out of that frame. He gave up two solo homers in the middle frames, but that's about all over almost five innings, and still, that was enough for the White Sox to hand him the loss. Barria owns a 6.14 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 66 strikeouts in 70.1 innings across 16 appearances, including 10 starts this year.
