Junis (4-7) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings while striking out four as the Royals fell 5-3 to Cleveland.

Homers were once again an issue for Junis, as he was taken deep by Jake Bauers and Tyler Naquin in the fourth inning for solo shots that proved to be the difference in the game. The right-hander will carry a 5.23 ERA and 88:34 K:BB through 94.2 innings into his next start Tuesday -- a home rematch against Cleveland.

Mengden was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Cardinals, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

As expected, Mengden will join Oakland's rotation Wednesday in place of Frankie Montas, who was suspended 80 games last week after testing positive for PEDs. The 26-year-old Mengden owns a solid 3.47 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 9.1 K/9 in 49.1 innings with Nashville this season, though his 5.09 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 19:15 K:BB in 23 innings with the big club this season leaves something to be desired. That said, he should be given a bit of a leash given Oakland's depleted big-league rotation.

The Angels will recall Barria from Triple-A Salt Lake and have him start Wednesday's game against the Reds, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Barria will enter the rotation as the Angels' fifth starter, replacing Jose Suarez, who was optioned to Triple-A over the weekend. The 22-year-old struggled mightily in his prior five outings at the big-league level this season, giving up 14 earned runs on 27 hits and five walks over 19.1 innings. He was hit similarly hard at Triple-A and may only be in line for a spot start with Trevor Cahill (elbow) on track to return from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Cahill looks set to work in a relief role initially, though he or Suarez -- when eligible to return to the majors -- could slot back in as the fifth starter if Barria can't get the job done.

Carasiti will serve as the opener for Wednesday's game against the Brewers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Carasiti will cover the first one or two innings Wednesday before giving way to Wade LeBlanc, who is slated to handle the majority of work. In his lone appearance for the Mariners this season, Carasiti allowed just one hit while striking out three batters across a scoreless inning of relief.

Hernandez (ribs) made his 2019 debut last week with the Royals' rookie-level Arizona League affiliate. He's made two appearances for the club, giving up five runs on five hits and two walks over 2.2 innings.

The 22-year-old spent the first two-plus months of the season at extended spring training while recovering from a stress fracture in his rib cage. While Hernandez now looks to be healthy again in spite of his poor results, he'll likely make at least a few more appearances in the Arizona League before receiving an assignment to a full-season affiliate. He spent the 2018 campaign with Low-A Lexington, posting a 3.29 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 82:23 K:BB In 79.1 innings.

Pearson (groin) has been throwing off flat ground, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

This is a step in the right direction for Pearson, who landed on the injured list over the weekend due to a groin injury. He still has to pass a few tests before being cleared for mound work, but the Blue Jays are hoping that could happen by the end of next week.

Borucki (elbow) is scheduled to pitch for the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays on Wednesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Per Zwelling, Borucki is scheduled to throw three innings in what will mark his first game action since injuring his elbow near the end of spring training. The right-hander will need plenty of time to build back up given the length of his absence, suggesting a return is at least multiple weeks away.

The Royals designated Boxberger for assignment Wednesday.

Though Boxberger had turned in a palatable 3.77 ERA in 17 appearances since the beginning of May, his 1.40 WHIP and 5.7 BB/9 didn't paint as rosy a picture of his performance. He'll be replaced in the Kansas City bullpen and active roster by lefty Tim Hill, who was recalled from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.

The Royals recalled Hill from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

He'll join the bullpen in place of the struggling Brad Boxberger, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. While he's up with the big club, Hill is likely to be deployed mainly in lefty-versus-lefty matchups.

Santiago allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out seven over five innings for Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.

The White Sox will need a fill-in starter this coming weekend, but it seems Santiago will be passed over in favor of a bullpen day headed by Carson Fulmer. Santiago threw 72 pitches (48 strikes) for the Knights in his first start since May 16. He may be considered for a big-league start soon.
