Hudson gave up a run on two hits and struck out one across one inning Friday against the White Sox.

Hudson wasn't able to shut down the White Sox as the Blue Jays had hoped, but Toronto was able to put up three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Hudson owns a 3.93 ERA with 17 punchouts over 18.1 frames in 2019 following his latest outing.

Covey (0-2) allowed four runs on three hits and five walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings. He took the loss Friday against the Blue Jays.

Covey surrendered all four of his runs via the long ball, giving up a three-run blast in the first inning followed by a solo homer in the second. The 27-year-old has made just two starts since joining the rotation, though he's failed to work past the fifth inning on both occasions. Covey will aim to work deeper into the ballgame in his next outing, which is slated for Thursday, also against Toronto.

Mengden will start Sunday's game against the Indians, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

As predicted, Mengden will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas ahead of Sunday's matchup to make a spot start for Oakland. Mike Fiers simply needed an extra day of rest after tossing 131 pitches during Tuesday's no-hitter, so it appears Mengden will travel back to the minors following his outing.

Johnson (elbow) is scheduled to throw at Fenway Park on Saturday, aAlex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Johnson completed a one-inning simulated game Tuesday and played catch Friday and had no apparent issues with his elbow. The 28-year-old could throw a simulated game Saturday, but there's yet to be a final determination of the specifics for his throwing session. If all goes well the team will then make a decision about a potential rehab assignment.

Ramirez had his contract selected from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

Ramirez joined Detroit on a minor-league deal in December and will now be added to the 40-man roster after posting a 2.31 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 30:5 K:BB across 23.1 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. The 29-year-old should slot into a low-leverage role as he is set to make his major-league debut.

Hudson will be used as an opener Friday against the White Sox, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Scheduled starter Clay Buchholz was scratched with a lat strain earlier in the day, and the Blue Jays didn't have time to call up a proper starter. Hudson will pitch first for Toronto but hasn't gotten more than five outs in any of his appearances this season, so he's unlikely to last much longer than that Friday.

Martin will be the Rangers' closer for now with Shawn Kelley on the injured list due to an infection, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Martin and Kelley had been splitting closer duties with Jose Leclerc demoted to a setup role. Martin is expected to get the Rangers' next save chance, but he may not hold the job for long, as manager Chris Woodward said Thursday that Leclerc is close to moving back into a ninth-inning role.

Chapman picked up the save against the Mariners on Thursday, giving up one run on one hit in the ninth inning while closing out the Yankees' 3-1 victory. He struck out one with no walks.

Chapman was staked to a 3-0 lead and gave up a solo home run to Domingo Santana, but he was eventually able to lock up his eighth save in nine opportunities. The left-hander is sporting a 2.63 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP to go along with a 19:3 K:BB over 13.2 innings.

Alexy has been shut down for six weeks due to a strained right lat, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Alexy, who suffered the injury at the beginning of May, apparently received a PRP injection and will be reevaluated in six weeks. Prior to suffering the injury, the 21-year-old compiled a 5.12 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 23:13 K:BB in five starts (19.1 innings) with High-A Down East.

Green has compiled a 14:2 K:BB while giving up two runs over 7.1 innings in three appearances since he was demoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in late April.

In recognition of Green's strong performance in the minors, manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that the right-hander could soon be in store for a promotion to the big club, per Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News. Boone noted that Green will be evaluated for a potential callup as soon as this weekend, with Joe Harvey and Nestor Cortes seemingly representing the most likely candidates to lose a spot in the bullpen if Green returns.
