  • Tim Mayza RP | PHI

Blue Jays' Tim Mayza: Recalled from Buffalo

Mayza was called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.

Mayza will be available out of the bullpen for Wednesday's game versus Kansas City after pitching a pair of innings with Buffalo on Sunday. Across 16 appearances with the Blue Jays this year, he's logged a 4.67 ERA and 1.62 WHIP.

  • George Kontos RP | CLE

Yankees' George Kontos: Designated for assignment

Kontos was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Wednesday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

He was cast off the roster in order to make room for Luis Cessa, who was recalled from the minors prior to his start against the Rays on Wednesday. Kontos will take a spin through waivers to determine where he'll head next.

  • Michael Fulmer RP | NYY

Tigers' Michael Fulmer: Looks sharp in rehab start

Fulmer (oblique) covered two perfect innings and struck out four in his rehab start Tuesday with High-A Lakeland.

Back on the mound for the first time since July 14, Fulmer made quick work of the Daytona hitters, pumping in 16 of his 18 pitches for strikes in the flawless outing. The Tigers will probably want to see Fulmer beef up his pitch count before rejoining the big club, so expect him to make at least two more turns in the minors as he looks to prove he's fully recovered from the left oblique strain.

  • Jalen Beeks RP | TEX

Rays' Jalen Beeks: Impresses out of bullpen

Beeks gave up two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out a career-high eight over five innings in relief during Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Yankees.

After opener Hunter Wood covered the first inning, Beeks entered the contest in the bottom of the second and worked as the de facto starter for Tampa Bay, covering 93 pitches in the outing. The Rays seem content to keep deploying Beeks in relief, but he should have a fairly predictable pitching schedule as one of the team's top piggyback options whenever Wood or Ryne Stanek is serving as the team's opener. Beeks has pitched exactly five innings in his last three appearances, yielding only two hits each time out.

  • White Sox's Bernardo Flores: Dealing with minor biceps injury

Director of player development Chris Getz said Flores was forced to leave Sunday's minor-league game due to biceps cramping, but he should be back in action within the next couple days, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Flores was able to play catch without any problems Tuesday, so this minor injury shouldn't warrant any real concern moving forward. Across 10 games with Double-A Birmingham this year, he's logged a 2.93 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with a 36:12 K:BB in 61.1 innings.

  • Joe Palumbo RP | TEX

Rangers' Joe Palumbo: Picks up first win

Palumbo got his first win since coming off the disabled list, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out nine over 5.1 innings for High-A Down East on Tuesday.

Palumbo, working his way back from Tommy John elbow surgery, has struck out 20 in 10.1 innings over his last two starts. A 32nd-rounder taken in the 2013 draft, the 23-year-old left-hander with a slight frame had advanced slowly through the system until a breakout season in 2016, when he led the Low-A South Atlantic League in strikeout rate and opponents' batting average. He was looking like a top pitching prospect in the system early in 2017 before the elbow injury. Palumbo's 11.3 K/9 in 27 innings for Down East is no fluke, and he's part of a corps of lower-level starters the organization will look to develop over the next 12-to-18 months.

  • Jaime Barria RP | CLE

Angels' Jaime Barria: Fans seven in win

Barria (8-7) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits and a walk while striking out seven over five innings against the Padres.

Freddy Galvis touched him up for a solo home run in the fourth inning, but Barria matched a season high with the seven punchouts. The 22-year-old hasn't been working particularly deep into games -- he's made it through six innings just once in 11 starts since June 1 -- but he's still found a way to be useful for fantasy; over his last four starts, he's 3-0 and is working to a 2.49 ERA in that span. Barria will take a 3.50 ERA into Sunday's matchup with the Rangers.

  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Blue Jays' Ken Giles: Gets second save with new club

Giles struck out two in a clean ninth inning for the save Tuesday against the Royals.

Giles made easy work of the Royals in the ninth inning, getting two swinging strikeouts and a soft groundout to earn his 14th save on the year. The right-hander has converted his two save opportunities for his new club, but has allowed runs to score in three of his six appearances so far for Toronto. Giles carries a 5.94 ERA and 1.32 WHIP this season, while opponents are hitting .293 off him. Regardless, Giles figures to continue seeing save chances in Toronto.

  • Ryan Borucki RP | SF

Blue Jays' Ryan Borucki: Allows four runs in four-inning start

Borucki allowed four runs on six hits in four innings against the Royals on Tuesday, striking out one and walking four in a no-decision.

Borucki struggled with his control in Tuesday's outing, throwing just 43 of 81 pitches for strikes while issuing four walks (the third time this year he's allowed that many walks). The lefty has a 3.29 ERA and 1.46 WHIP to go along with a 33:18 K:BB in 52 innings this season. Borucki is in line to take the mound against the Yankees in New York in his next start.

  • Twins' Trevor Hildenberger: Notches save against Pirates

Hildenberger pitched a scoreless ninth to record the save against the Pirates on Tuesday, allowing one hit while issuing no walks and recording no strikeouts.

Hildenberger induced a groundout before allowing a single, after which he got Adeiny Hechavarria to ground into a game-ending double-play, retiring the side on seven pitches. This was the second straight save opportunity converted by the right-hander, but it comes after four consecutive appearances in which Hildenberger allowed at least two runs. His ERA stood at 3.54 before those outings, yet he still has a decent 1.29 WHIP on the year. The 27-year-old looks like the primary option in the ninth inning, ahead of Addison Reed.
