  • Austin Pruitt RP | TEX

Rays' Austin Pruitt: Called back to big leagues

Pruitt was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Monday.

Pruitt was only just sent down on Friday, but he'll head right back to the majors as a replacement for Jonny Venters (hamstring). Pruitt has a mediocre 4.24 ERA in 51 innings for the Rays. His rather low 14.5 percent strikeout rate is offset by a very good 4.8 percent walk rate.

  • Yankees' Giovanny Gallegos: Back in majors

Gallegos was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.

The Yankees will go with an extra man in the bullpen for their three-game series in a National League park against the Phillies, with Gallegos called up and outfielder Clint Frazier sent down. Gallegos has made one major-league appearance this season, tossing a pair of scoreless innings. He has a 5.09 ERA in 17.2 innings at the Triple-A level, though his excellent peripherals give him a 1.84 FIP.

  • Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Undergoing MRI

Mengden underwent an MRI on his sprained right foot Monday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Mengden left his start Saturday with the injury and flew back to Oakland to be examined by team doctors. Whether or not he'll be able to make his next scheduled start Thursday against the Tigers should become clear once the results of the MRI are known.

  • Miguel Almonte RP | LAA

Angels' Miguel Almonte: Returns to action for Triple-A club

Almonte (shoulder) was activated from the 7-day disabled list last week and has made two appearances out of the bullpen for Triple-A Salt Lake, giving up one run over 1.1 innings.

Almonte, whom the Angels acquired from the Royals in early April, had been sidelined all season while battling a sore shoulder. After a successful rehab outing June 18 with one of the Angels' rookie-level affiliates, Almonte returned to the Triple-A bullpen and should see regular work in high-leverage spots for Salt Lake. Since Almonte possesses a spot on the 40-man roster, he could be one of the top candidates for a promotion to the big club if the Angels should need an extra reliever down the road.

  • Ryan Yarbrough RP | NYY

Rays' Ryan Yarbrough: Grabs seventh victory in extras

Yarbrough (7-3) fired a scoreless 12th inning during which he issued a walk in an extra-innings victory over the Yankees on Sunday.

Yarbrough became the seventh Rays pitcher to take the mound in a "bullpen day" that turned into an extra-innings marathon. The right-hander went through a rough eight-appearance stretch between May 9 and June 16 during which he generated a 4.70 ERA, a number partly comprised of 17 extra-base hits allowed (nine doubles, eight home runs) over 44 innings. However, he's now bounced back to produce scoreless efforts in his last two trips to the mound, allowing just one hit over 4.1 innings. Yarbrough offers solid strikeout upside, but his control problems (3.3 BB/9) and occasional issues with the long ball often conspire to get him into trouble.

  • Liam Hendriks RP | CHC

Athletics' Liam Hendriks: Designated for assignment

Hendriks was designated for assignment by Oakland on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Hendriks has a 7.36 ERA in 11 innings for the Athletics this season. The eight-year vet has a mediocre 4.83 ERA in 393 career big-league innings, which could be enough for another team to take a shot on him on waivers.

  • Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Flies to Oakland for further evaluation

Mengden (foot) flew back to Oakland to have his sprained right foot examined by team doctors, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Mengden's status remains firmly up in the air, with a stint on the disabled list still a possibility. The veteran has had previous issues with his foot, but Slusser reports the feeling is this current injury is unrelated. A further update on Mengden's status is possible Monday, when clarity should be shed on his chances of making his next scheduled start Thursday against the Tigers.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Hit hard in start

Andriese gave up three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one in Sunday's win over the Yankees.

His ERA went from 3.68 to 4.02 after this outing. Andriese has not gone deeper than 3.2 innings in any of his outings this season, so even when he gets the start, there's almost no chance he'll go deep enough to qualify for the win.

  • Dylan Covey RP | ATL

White Sox's Dylan Covey: Could make next start

Covey (hip) expects to throw a side session on Tuesday and may be able to start Friday's game in Texas, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

He left Saturday's start against the Athletics with right hip soreness but said he felt better on Sunday. Assuming all goes well when he throws Tuesday, there's no reason to think he wouldn't make his next start, but given his limited upside and the uncertainty regarding this injury, he makes for a high-risk start in weekly leagues.

  • Twins' Fernando Rodney: Nails down 17th save

Rodney threw a perfect ninth inning and struck out all three batters he faced in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Rangers.

In his last five outings, Rodney has allowed just one hit in 4.1 scoreless innings, striking out nine batters in the process. He's now 17-for-20 in save chances with a 2.73 ERA on the year. After a 4.12 ERA in 183.1 innings from 2015-2017, the 41-year-old has turned back the clock and has one again become a reliable, full-time closer.
