Alex Colome RP | CHW
Mariners' Alex Colome: Grabs first hold Monday
Colome recorded his first hold in a win over the Rangers on Monday, firing a scoreless eighth inning in which he allowed a hit, was charged with a balk, and recorded two strikeouts.
The recent trade acquisition had gotten right to work in his new digs Sunday, recording a save on a day when Edwin Diaz was unavailable due to having pitched four times in the prior five days. Monday, Colome was deployed in what is expected to be his much more frequent slotting, that of a setup option ahead of Diaz. He played his role effectively, working around a single and a balk to close out the eighth with a strikeout of Shin-Soo Choo. Having been used as a full-time closer while in Tampa, Monday's hold was Colome's first of the season.

Dylan Covey RP | ATL
White Sox's Dylan Covey: Pulled from start early
Covey allowed five runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out three over 4.1 innings in Monday's 9-6 loss to the Indians.
Covey wasn't helped much by his defense, which committed three errors and allowed a catch-able flyball drop for a double, but he bears some responsibility as well. The right-hander was given a 5-2 lead through four innings, but he left with one out in the fifth after loading the bases. He also uncorked a couple of wild pitches. With Carlos Rodon (shoulder) nearing a return, Covey's stay in the rotation may last one more turn, maybe two. He's next expected to start Sunday at home against Milwaukee.

Matt Andriese RP | MIA
Rays' Matt Andriese: Delivers in long relief Monday
Andriese fired three perfect frames in an extra-innings win over the Athletics on Monday, recording two strikeouts.
Andriese played his hybrid starter/long reliever role to perfection, providing three valuable innings during the marathon win. It was the 28-year-old's third multi-inning scoreless effort overall during May, a month that's brought mixed results overall. Andriese has also allowed seven runs (four earned) across four other appearances during the month, but he's impressed with a 17:4 K:BB across his 17.2 innings.

Ryne Stanek RP | STL
Rays' Ryne Stanek: Grabs first win
Stanek (1-0) fired 1.2 scoreless frames in an extra-innings win over the Athletics on Monday, allowing a hit and two walks.
Stanek had just started a "bullpen day" game Saturday against the Orioles in which he'd also turned in 1.2 scoreless innings. The 26-year-old has now blanked the opposition in four consecutive appearances, whittling his ERA down from 7.36 to 3.24 in the process.

Ricardo Rodriguez RP | TEX
Rangers' Ricardo Rodriguez: Rehab assignment up
Rodriguez (biceps) is unlikely to be activated to the majors when his rehabilitation assignment expires Tuesday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Rodriguez is expected to land with Triple-A Round Rock, but the Rangers need to clear room on the 40-man roster first. In 11 innings of rehab work, Rodriguez allowed one run, a home run to the first batter he faced, in his first outing before throwing 10 consecutive scoreless innings.

Ken Giles RP | ATL
Astros' Ken Giles: Mops up Monday's win
Giles allowed a hit and struck out one batter over one inning in Monday's 5-1 win over the Yankees.
Manager A.J. Hinch likely gave Giles the work in a non-save situation to take the stench away from his outing a day earlier, when Houston's closer allowed three runs without recording an out. He's expended 35 pitches over Sunday and Monday, which could make him unavailable if a save chance arises Tuesday.

Edwin Diaz RP | LAD
Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Earns 19th save
Diaz worked around a walk in a scoreless inning Monday against Texas to pick up the save.
Diaz has struggled with control throughout his career, but this was just his first walk in his past 13 appearances. He has slashed his BB/9 from 4.4 to 3.2, and that's the biggest reason why Diaz owns career bests in ERA (1.59) and WHIP (0.71) to go with his 19 saves.

Jakob Junis RP | TEX
Royals' Jakob Junis: Strikes out seven in loss to Twins
Junis (5-4) allowed three runs on six hits and four walks across six innings while taking the loss Monday against the Twins. He struck out seven.
Junis worked around trouble all day, taking a shutout into the fifth inning before surrendering a two-run home run to Miguel Sano. He stayed in the game for the sixth, but allowed another run on an RBI single from Brian Dozier before his day came to a close. While it wasn't pretty, this was Junis' first quality start over the last four and he's now tallied at least seven strikeouts in four of his last five. He'll take a 3.61 ERA into his next scheduled start Sunday against the Athletics.
-
Fernando Rodney RP | ARI
Twins' Fernando Rodney: Allows run in four-out save
Rodney allowed a run on three hits in 1.1 innings to earn his 11th save Sunday against the Royals. He struck out three.
Rodney came on in a three-run game with men on base in the eighth inning, allowing a run to score before he closed out the frame. He was spotted two more runs in the top half of the ninth, so a solo home run from Jorge Soler wasn't extremely consequantial. This was the first time Rodney had been scored upon in 11 outings and he's now converted nine consecutive save opportunities.

Scott Barlow RP | ATH
Royals' Scott Barlow: Recalled from minors
Barlow was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Monday.
Barlow will take the place of Eric Stout on the roster and in the bullpen, as Stout was sent to the minors in a corresponding roster move after allowing three runs in Sunday's win over the Rangers. The 25-year-old Barlow owns a 3.94 ERA across 32 innings (six starts, one relief appearance) with the Storm Chasers this season. He should offer length out of the bullpen during his time with the big club.
