  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Preserves shutout Tuesday

Diaz pitched a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday against the White Sox to secure his ninth save of the season. He struck out two.

Diaz posted a strong bounceback performance after walking three batters in his appearance Saturday. The hard-throwing righty needed just 11 pitches to retire the side and preserve the Mariners' first shutout of the season. Diaz currently boasts a shiny 0.79 ERA over his first 11.1 innings of relief this season.

  • Liam Hendriks RP | CHC

Athletics' Liam Hendriks: Has cyst removed Tuesday

Hendriks (groin) received a platelet rich plasma injection and had a cyst removed from his hip Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

There had been some hope that Hendriks would be able to come off the disabled list Tuesday, as he became eligible April 24. However, he'll remain on the shelf a bit longer as he deals with this recent setback. A return timetable should take shape as his level of activity increases.

  • Lou Trivino RP | PHI

Athletics' Lou Trivino: Back in big leagues

Trivino was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, Julian McWilliams of The Athletic Bay Area reports.

With Yusmeiro Petit landing on the bereavement list, Trivino will head to the majors to provide bullpen depth. The 26-year-old has two scoreless innings to his name in the big leagues, but his stay may be brief given that the maximum time that can be spent on the bereavement list is seven days.

  • Tyler Duffey RP | KC

Twins' Tyler Duffey: Returns to majors

Duffey was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old has been outstanding out of the bullpen for the Red Wings, tossing 11 scoreless innings to start the season to go with a 14:1 K:BB in that span. Duffey will head to the majors to offer bullpen help, though he'll likely start out in middle relief until he proves he can get big-league hitters out.

  • Travis Lakins RP | BAL

Red Sox's Travis Lakins: Ready to return from DL

Lakins (elbow) is scheduled to start Tuesday's game for Double-A Portland, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Lakins hasn't pitched in a game since July 3 due to a stress fracture in his elbow, but he's finally healthy enough to make his season debut. His arsenal and past performance have been impressive, but his injury history is concerning.

  • Collin McHugh RP | ATL

Astros' Collin McHugh: Has another scoreless outing

McHugh threw a perfect 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out one in Monday's 2-0 loss to the Angels.

McHugh has handled his transition to the bullpen with aplomb, posting six scoreless outings out of seven, including three straight clean appearances. The former starter can give the Astros length when needed, but there hasn't been a need. Houston's starters have averaged 6.2 innings per start and lead the league with a 2.12 ERA. McHugh has a 0.93 ERA with a 13.0 K/9 over seven appearances, which might be tempting enough for manager A.J. Hinch to use him late in tight games when the Astros are leading.

  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Rangers' Matt Moore: Takes no-decision Monday

Moore allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over five-plus innings in Monday's 9-4 loss to the Athletics.

Moore left the game with the score tied, handing it off to a bullpen that has been maxed out early in the season, averaging 3.2 innings per game. The left-hander was at 86 pitches when he was pulled, so he had more to expend, but with four right-handers coming up, manager Jeff Banister made the move. It was the fourth time in five starts that Moore has been unable to give Texas six innings. The good news is that Moore has improved over his last three starts after a disastrous beginning to the season (11.05 ERA after two outings). He'll look to drop his ERA (5.55) even further Monday in Cleveland, although it should be noted that the Rangers are working with a six-man rotation at this time. His next start could be moved around to accommodate keeping staff ace Cole Hamels on a five-day routine.

  • Carson Fulmer RP | PIT

White Sox's Carson Fulmer: Earns first win

Fulmer (1-1) allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out three over six innings to pick up his first win of the season in Monday's 10-4 win over Seattle.

Fulmer had his start moved up at the last minute when the White Sox placed scheduled starter Miguel Gonzalez (rotator cuff) on the disabled list. He wasn't throwing on short rest, but pitchers are creatures of habit and he did have to adapt. And he adapted well, tossing his first quality start. It helps when teammates bring support with early runs, but Fulmer did his part, retiring 15 of the first 16 batters faced. We're not ready to buy in on the young right-hander yet, but he will be given plenty of leash to work through the issues contributing to his 6.00 ERA over four starts and one relief outing. Fulmer's next start is expected to be in one of the games in Saturday's doubleheader against the Royals.

  • Alan Busenitz RP | CIN

Twins' Alan Busenitz: Optioned to Triple-A

Busenitz was sent to Triple-A Rochester on Monday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Busenitz appeared in three games for Minnesota out of the bullpen since being called up April 15. He allowed one run on six hits and a walk while striking out six across 3.1 innings, resulting in a 2.70 ERA.

  • Ariel Jurado RP | TEX

Rangers' Ariel Jurado: Returns from DL

Jurado (finger) allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four Tuesday against Double-A Springfield. He didn't factor into the decision.

Jurado was placed on the disabled list on April 9 with a broken nail, but he's since returned to health. He's made two starts for Double-A Frisco in 2018, accruing a 5.19 ERA and 1.38 WHIP across 8.2 innings.
