  • Matt Bowman RP | BAL

Orioles' Matt Bowman: Outrighted to minors

The Orioles outrighted Bowman to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.

After the Orioles selected his contract and added him to the 40-man roster Sunday, Bowman seemed in good position to be part of the Opening Day bullpen, but the team ultimately elected to go in a different direction with its 26th spot on the active roster to begin the season. Bowman will now be pushed off the 40-man roster, but he'll remain in the organization and will look to impress at Norfolk with the hope of earning a call-up at some point later on in 2025.

  • Trevor Stephan RP | CLE

Guardians' Trevor Stephan: Opens season on IL

The Guardians placed Stephan (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Stephan has been throwing off a mound since the beginning of March, though he still has a long way to go in his rehab from UCL reconstruction surgery. Assuming the rest of his ramp-up process goes smoothly, he should return to Cleveland's bullpen within a few months.

  • Orioles' Andrew Kittredge: IL move made

The Orioles placed Kittredge on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to his recovery from left knee surgery, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

The transaction is procedural in nature and clears a spot on Baltimore's 26-man active roster. Kittredge isn't expected back until June or July following surgery in early March, so he could be a candidate to eventually shift to the 60-day IL.

  • Kaleb Ort RP | LAA

Astros' Kaleb Ort: Goes on 15-day IL

The Astros placed Ort (oblique) on the 15-day injured list Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Ort strained his left oblique early on in spring training and has progressed slowly. He began throwing off a mound last week, and he's reportedly scheduled to throw a live batting practice session Thursday, per MLB.com. If that activity goes well, Ort could soon head out on a minor-league rehab assignment.

  • Tyler Matzek RP | NYY

Yankees' Tyler Matzek: April return likely

Manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Matzek (oblique) is trending toward returning from the injured list in April, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Boone said that Matzek "isn't far behind" fellow reliever Ian Hamilton (infection) in his recovery and noted that the latter is expected back in early April. However, Matzek doesn't own a spot on the Yankees' 40-man roster, so he'll almost certainly be sent down to Triple-A once he's healthy.

  • Shawn Dubin RP | ARI

Astros' Shawn Dubin: Lands on injured list

The Astros placed Dubin (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Dubin missed the entirety of spring training with his shoulder issue. He's been throwing for most of this month, but he's without an official timeline for making his 2025 debut.

  • Ian Hamilton RP | ATL

Yankees' Ian Hamilton: Targeting early-April return

Manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Hamilton (infection) is expected to return in early April, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Hamilton was placed on the injured list Wednesday (retroactive to Monday), and Boone's comments suggest that the 29-year-old righty will be able to return to the bullpen when eligible April 8. The Yankees will presumably look to use him in a few minor-league games before then, and he's likely in line for middle-relief duty once he returns.

  • Steven Okert RP | HOU

    Astros' Steven Okert: Contract selected

The Astros selected Okert's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Okert earned a bullpen spot following a stellar spring in which he tossed 10.2 scoreless innings with a 16.2 K:BB. He will be utilized in middle relief.

  • Rafael Montero RP | DET

Astros' Rafael Montero: Added to roster

The Astros selected Montero's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Montero was removed from the Astros' 40-man roster last season but has made his way back on after a strong spring in which he struck out 10 batters and allowed a .194 batting average against over 8.2 innings in the Grapefruit League. He will serve as a middle reliever for Houston.

  • Jake Cousins RP | NYY

Yankees' Jake Cousins: Lands on 60-day IL

The Yankees placed Cousins (forearm) on the 60-day injured list Thursday.

A forearm strain prevented Cousins from seeing any action in the Grapefruit League this spring, and the Yankees' decision to immediately send him to the 60-day IL indicates that he isn't anywhere close to making his season debut. The right-hander won't be eligible to play until late May; meanwhile, camp standout Pablo Reyes will fill the vacancy on the active roster.
