  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Still no timetable for return

Manaea (back) remains without a definitive timetable for a return, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.

Manaea was scratched from his start over the weekend against the Red Sox due to the existing back soreness. While he was able to test out the injury by playing catch in the outfield Friday, Manaea said he's still experiencing some aching, so the Athletics may choose to hold him out a little longer. With Manaea ailing and Andrew Triggs (back) seemingly in line to miss his next scheduled start, the Athletics announced Sunday that Raul Alcantara and Jharel Cotton would be promoted from Triple-A Nashville this week to join the rotation.

  • Justin Wilson RP | BOS

Tigers' Justin Wilson: Struggling with velocity

Wilson's fastball velocity has dropped since earlier this season and he seems to be struggling with location, the Detroit Free Press reports.

He has a 4.24 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 57 relief appearances, but he lasted just nine pitches Friday night, allowing three straight singles. Wilson's velocity is down about two mph since early in the season. He received a cortisone shot in early August because of elbow soreness, but manager Brad Ausmus was quick to refute suggestions he's injured. The Tigers will watch Wilson's workload in the immediate future to try to get him back to the top of his game as the team's top left-handed reliever.

  • Jose Leclerc RP | SD

Rangers' Jose Leclerc: Recalled from Triple-A

Leclerc was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

Leclerc will offer the Rangers an additional option out of the bullpen, where he figures to work largely in long relief. The 22-year-old tossed 43 innings at Round Rock this season, producing a 2.72 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 50:28 K:BB.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Nails down 30th save in Saturday victory

Colome gave up two hits in one-third of an inning against Toronto on Saturday' but still notched his 30th save of the season.

The closer came on in relief after Enny Romero gave up three runs to close the lead to 7-4. After Devon Travis moved to second on fielder's indifference, Jose Bautista was able to plate him with a single that was charged to Romero. Colome yielded another hit to Josh Donaldson, bringing Edwin Encarnacion to the plate as the tying run. However, he was able to get the veteran slugger to fly out to left to end the game.

  • Trevor May RP | ATH

Twins' Trevor May: Throws second bullpen session

May (back) completed a 31-pitch bullpen session Saturday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

May has thrown two such sessions since hitting the DL on Aug. 10 with a lower-back strain. He's set to face hitters in live batting practice Tuesday and could be cleared to head out on a rehab assignment thereafter.

  • Michael Tonkin RP | MIN

Twins' Michael Tonkin: Plays catch Saturday

Tonkin (shoulder) was able to play catch Saturday and came away encouraged by this session, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. "[The shoulder] is a little bit better, but still a little sore," Tonkin said. "I'll just take it day by day and see what happens."

Tonkin has labeled his condition as "biceps tendinitis with some level of shoulder impingement" and could be sidelined for a few more days while he waits for the soreness to dissipate. The 26-year-old has seen heavy usage out of the Twins' bullpen this season, covering 63.2 innings over 56 appearances and posting a 4.95 ERA and 1.41 WHIP.

  • Twins' Hector Santiago: Throws second straight quality start Saturday

Santiago (11-8) allowed three runs on four hits, struck out six and walked three over six innings in a victory over the White Sox on Saturday.

As they were last year, home runs have been a big issue for Santiago this season. He's allowed 29, including two Saturday night, but fortunately, they were of the solo variety. Santiago has allowed three runs on seven hits over his last 12.1 innings since yielding eight runs on Aug. 20. Overall, he owns a 4.91 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 127 strikeouts in 152 innings.

  • Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Pummeled by potent Red Sox

Mengden (1-6) lasted only 2.2 innings after giving up seven runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out two in Saturday's loss to the Red Sox.

Even pitcher-friendly Oakland Coliseum couldn't do much to limit the damage the league's best offense had off the recent call-up. Most of the hemorrhaging came in the third inning, but it was only a matter of time until the effective Red Sox offense took advantage of the 23-year-old's lack of control (he only threw roughly half of his pitches for strikes). Mengden has managed to maintain the high strikeout rate he had in the minors, but that's been his only redeeming quality thus far in the majors. Mengden's already been demoted once this season - after a rough five-start stretch in July - but assuming he makes his next scheduled start, he'll take the mound again Friday at home against the Mariners. All of his five remaining scheduled starts are against offenses in the top half of the league in run production.

  • Michael Fulmer RP | NYY

Tigers' Michael Fulmer: Allows three runs in six innings in loss

Fulmer (10-6) allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four in a loss Saturday at Kansas City.

Fulmer pitched well enough to win but was out-maneuvered by the Royals and their gutsy starter Yordano Ventura. Fulmer continues to be a key contributor to the Tigers' rotation, but it appears he is approaching the upper ceiling of his innings allotment, meaning he will surely be used less down the stretch.

  • Chad Green RP | TOR

Yankees' Chad Green: Diagnosed with UCL sprain, strained flexor tendon

Green has been diagnosed with a sprained right UCL and a strained right flexor tendon, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports.

The injury forced Green off the mound Friday after 1.2 innings (54 pitches). He will see a doctor in New York on Monday for a full evaluation but it sounds like he will almost certainly miss a couple starts and Green's season may very well be over. Luis Severino did not pitch in relief of Green on Friday but would seem like a top candidate to take his spot in the rotation.
