  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese knocked out of Sunday's loss

Matt Andriese made his second start of the season for the Rays and again didn't make it out of the fourth inning.

Andriese took the loss on Sunday against the Yankees, allowing four runs in three and a third innings. He allowed eight hits and two walks, while striking out one. Andriese threw 39 strikes in 63 pitches. His ERA increased to 6.75.

Andriese's next start is Friday, against Toronto's R.A. Dickey.

  • Trevor May RP | ATH

Twins' Trevor May tosses six one-run innings in win Sunday

Twins pitcher Trevor May gave up just one earned run on four hits in six innings while striking out four and walking none in his team's 7-2 win over the Indians Sunday.

May (1-1) struggled in his first start of the season but bounced back nicely Sunday, with the only damage coming on three straight two-out singles in the third inning.

"I was able to get ahead of guys and make pitches when I needed to," May said to MLB.com. "A couple things went my way this time that didn't last time. It's about being as consistent as possible and having them put the ball in play."

He owns a 4.76 ERA and 8:1 K:BB ratio in 11 1/3 innings heading into Saturday's matchup with the Mariners.

  • Andrew Miller saves fourth game of year for Yankees

Yankees closer Andrew Miller saved his fourth game of the year in Sunday's win.

Miller pitched a scoreless ninth, allowing one hit and striking out three. He has not allowed a run this season and has given up two hits in six innings pitched.

"It's never easy. It's not how I wanted to start, but you have to look at the scoreboard in those situations," Miller said to MLB.com. "I know that there's nobody behind me, so I'm not trying to keep it to one run or no runs; I'm trying to win the game. Right there, it's about getting three outs before they get two runs. Fortunately I was able to do that. It wasn't pretty, but I got there."

Manager Joe Girardi continues to say both Miller and reliever Dellin Betances will be used interchangeably.

"We're seeing a ton of right-handed hitters and we're going to see a bunch again. It's kind of worked out that way," Girardi said. "I've asked them to get some multiple innings, some multiple outs for us. Andrew has done a good job in the ninth, so I've just kind of stuck with it right now. I'm not saying that's been named to anyone, but it's just kind of the way it has worked out with the lineup we have."

Astros' Josh Fields to pitch longer outing on injury rehab

Astros pitcher Josh Fields has made four appearances for Triple-A Fresno as he works through a minor league injury rehab assignment.

Fields is on the 15-day disabled list with a groin injury.

The Astros are ready to stretch out Fields. He will make his first multi-inning appearance for Fresno on Monday, per the Houston Chronicle.

  • Zach Putnam RP | BOS

White Sox David Robertson helping Zach Putnam learn cutter

White Sox closer David Robertson learned the cutter from one of baseball's best practitioners of the pitch--Mariano Rivera.

Robertson is now passing on that knowledge to Chicago bullpen-mate Zach Putnam.

"I'm trying to have him impart some of that knowledge on to me as I develop that pitch as a third pitch," Putnam said, per MLB.com. "It was almost surreal listening to him talk yesterday. He was like, 'Mo holds his like this and does this with it,' and I'm like, 'I wish I had a camera to record all this so I have it for future reference.' But I'm trying to learn from him whenever I can."

  • Yohan Pino RP | MIN

    Royals recall Yohan Pino

The Royals called up pitcher Yohan Pino from Triple-A Omaha on Saturday.

Pino made his presence felt immediately, throwing four and two thirds scoreless innings of relief in Saturday's loss. He struck out three, walked none and allowed three hits.

  • Jesse Chavez RP | ATL

    Jesse Hahn RP | TOR

Jesse Hahn confident he'll make next start for Athletics

Athletics starting pitcher Jesse Hahn was forced to leave Saturday's game with a blister on his right middle finger.

On Sunday, Hahn was wearing a bandage on the finger, but he was confident he wouldn't miss a start, per the Bay Area News Group.

There's still a possibility that the blister will keep him out of the April 23 start, however, so that the blister can heal fully. Jesse Chavez would get the start in his place, per MLB.com.

  • Mariners pitcher Fernando Rodney earns third save Saturday

Mariners closer Fernando Rodney worked a perfect ninth inning Saturday in Seattle's 3-1 win over the Rangers.

Rodney needed just 13 pitches to finish things off for the Mariners, including a strike out of Shin-Soo Choo. Rodney lowered his ERA to 12.46 in his third save of the year.

  • Jesse Chavez RP | ATL

Athletics pitcher Jesse Chavez earns 11-out save Saturday

Athletics pitcher Jesse Chavez earned his first save of the season Saturday in odd fashion, working 3 2/3 innings in Oakland's 5-0 win over the Royals.

Chavez came on with one out in the fifth after starter Jesse Hahn was forced to leave with a finger injury. Chavez worked strong and efficiently, tossing six strikeouts with just one walk in his outing. Chavez allowed four hits but kept his ERA a perfect 0.00.

"Chavy is the guy for that," said A's manager Bob Melvin to MLB.com. "We got [Tyler] Clippard up at the end, but for him to finish that up and give the bullpen a rest … that was terrific."

  • Josh Fields RP | MIL

Astros manager A.J. Hinch please with Josh Fields' (groin) progress

Astros manager A.J. Hinch was encouraged with pitcher Josh Fields' (groin) Triple-A outing on Friday, despite giving up a run on three hits in a relief appearance, reports the Houston Chronicle.

"The reports are that was some of the best stuff that Fields has featured while on rehab," Hinch said. "So that’s a good sign. Gave up a run, threw just north of 20 pitches. His stuff was together. His changeup was really good. He’s inching closer to coming back."

Fields, who is on the disabled list with a groin strain, is to make another relief outing on Sunday.
