  • Caden Dana SP | LAA

Angels' Caden Dana: Recalled ahead of Wednesday's start

The Angels recalled Dana from Triple-A Salt Lake ahead of his start Wednesday in Kansas City.

Dana will be making his first appearance at the big-league level since late May. The 21-year-old holds a 5.93 ERA through 82 frames in Triple-A this season and has permitted 16 earned runs in 16.1 innings at the big-league level. With Victor Mederos (shoulder) and Tyler Anderson (oblique) both on the shelf, Dana could receive multiple turns through the Los Angeles rotation.

  • Jose Castillo RP | BAL

Mariners' Jose Castillo: Claimed by Mariners

The Mariners claimed Castillo off waivers from the Mets on Wednesday.

Castillo posted a 2.35 ERA and 19:6 K:BB over 15.1 innings with the Mets but was unable to lock down a steady roster spot. He'll now join the Mariners as a middle reliever.

  • Kyle Finnegan RP | DET

Tigers' Kyle Finnegan: Dealing with groin issue

Finnegan experienced right groin tightness while warming up in the bullpen during Wednesday's game against the Mets, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

The right-hander was preparing to enter the game in the seventh inning before cutting short his warmup routine. Finnegan has been a key high-leverage arm for the Tigers since being acquired from the Nationals on July 31, firing 14.1 scoreless innings over 12 appearances with a 19:3 K:BB, two holds, three wins and four saves. Should he end up missing significant time, Tommy Kahnle and Tyler Holton would likely step up as setup men for Will Vest.

  • Victor Mederos RP | LAA

Angels' Victor Mederos: Shut down for season

The Angels transferred Mederos (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Mederos landed on the 15-day IL on Aug. 24 after he experiencing shoulder inflammation coming out of his third start of the season for the Angels, and his move to the 60-day IL now spells an end to his 2025 campaign. Assuming Mederos doesn't require any sort of procedure to address his shoulder injury, he should be back to full health for spring training, when he'll be looking to compete for a spot in the Halos' Opening Day rotation.

  • Paul Sewald RP | DET

    Tigers' Paul Sewald: Faces hitters

Sewald (shoulder) threw live batting practice Monday at the Tigers' facility in Florida, MLB.com reports.

Sewald will likely face hitters on one or two more occasions before the Tigers send him out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Acquired from the Guardians on July 31, Sewald has yet to make his Tigers debut while recovering from a moderate teres major strain that he sustained prior to the trade. He's eligible to return from the 60-day injured list Sept. 10 and could be activated shortly after that date.

  • Mariners' Guillo Zuniga: Goes to Mariners on MiLB pact

The Mariners signed Zuniga to a minor-league contract Tuesday.

Zuniga had spent the entirety of the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Phillies organization before being released last week. The 26-year-old posted a 5.14 ERA and 43:20 K:BB over 42 innings with Lehigh Valley and will give the Mariners some relief depth at Triple-A Tacoma.

  • Jeff Hoffman RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Jeff Hoffman: Collects save No. 30

Hoffman gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his 30th save of the season in a 12-9 win over the Reds.

The erratic closer allowed a one-out single to Sal Stewart but otherwise had little trouble dispatching the bottom half of Cincy's batting order. Hoffman has blown three of eight save chances since the beginning of August while stumbling to a 5.54 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 15:9 K:BB over 13 innings, but with most of the Blue Jays' overextended bullpen looking shaky right now, his ninth-inning role doesn't appear to be in jeopardy.

  • Tigers' Sawyer Gipson-Long: Mauled by Mets

Gipson-Long (0-2) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up six run on five hits and two walks over four innings as the Tigers fell 12-5 to the Mets. He struck out three.

Brought back up to the majors earlier in the day, Gipson-Long served up a solo shot to Pete Alonso in the first inning and a three-run blast to Luis Torrens in the fourth. The right-hander has been taken deep six times in his last 17.2 big-league innings dating back to June 21, but with Chris Paddack apparently headed to the bullpen once he returns from the bereavement list, Gipson-Long may be set for a longer look in the rotation. If he sticks around, things won't get any easier for him in his next scheduled start, which would come on the road early next week against the Yankees.

  • Cole Winn SP | TEX

Rangers' Cole Winn: Authors scoreless outing

Winn (hand) retired all three batters faced while pitching for Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Winn looked sharp in what was his first game action since landing on the 15-day injured list Aug. 20 with nerve irritation in his thumb -- an issue that was eventually classified as "arm fatigue." The right-hander needed 17 pitches (11 strikes) to set down the three opposing batters. Winn could rejoin the bullpen as early as this weekend when the Rangers open a three-game series against the Astros on Friday.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Angels' Kenley Jansen: Works scoreless ninth

Jansen worked around a walk in a hitless and scoreless ninth inning in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Royals. He struck out two.

The veteran closer got loose for what was going to be a save chance before the Angels tacked on an additional run with two outs in the top of the ninth. Interim manager Ray Montgomery still turned to Jansen despite it becoming a non-save situation, and Jansen needed 22 pitches to shut the door. Jansen has now worked three of the last four days and will presumably be unavailable for Wednesday's contest.
