Walker will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Angels, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Walker will be making his eighth start of the season Wednesday. While he hasn't pitched more than three innings in any of his appearances in 2023, Walker has been effective with a 2.52 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 41:11 K:BB through 39.1 frames. Based on their recent usage, Tristan Beck and Sean Manaea represent the likeliest candidates to cover multiple innings behind Walker on Wednesday.

Alexander (6-2) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on three hits while failing to record an out in a 7-5 loss to the Angels.

Alexander was thoroughly ineffective while serving as the Giants' opener Tuesday, surrendering a double and a pair of singles to his first three batters before quickly being replaced by Jakob Junis. Alexander has failed to complete a full inning in three straight appearances, a stretch in which he's allowed four runs on six hits without logging a single strikeout.

Robertson picked up the save Tuesday against Cincinnati. He allowed one walk while striking out two over a scoreless inning.

Robertson looked sharp while picking up his second save with Miami. It was a solid bounce-back performance after the veteran right-hander allowed four runs over his previous two outings (two innings). Overall, Robertson is 16-for-20 in save opportunities with a 2.63 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 53:15 K:BB across 48 innings this season between the Marlins and the Mets.

The Phillies returned Ortiz to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals.

Ortiz surrendered one run on four hits and struck out one batter in two innings during the Phillies' Game 1 win over Washington. He'll now return to Triple-A, where he holds a 4.25 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 29.2 frames. Should the Phillies need a fresh bullpen arm, it's possible Ortiz makes his way back to Philadelphia later this season.

Alzolay worked around a hit to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and record the save in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Mets.

Alzolay continued his strong recent stretch, as he's now put together scoreless outings in nine of his last 10 appearances. The righty has established himself as Chicago's closer with his strong 2.49 ERA overall and 15 saves in 16 chances. After having some uncertainty in the role to begin the year, the Cubs have seemingly found a reliable option for the rest of this season and likely into 2024.

The Dodgers optioned Hudson to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Hudson was recalled from Triple-A on Sunday and will head back to the minors after surrendering one run over two innings during Monday's win over the Padres. Hudson hasn't been particularly effective in the majors this year with a 7.94 ERA and 1.76 WHIP through 5.2 frames, but he could find himself back in Los Angeles if the Dodgers need a fresh bullpen arm.

The Dodgers recalled Gonzalez from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Gonzalez was sent down to Triple-A on July 3 and has since put up a 3.48 ERA and 1.55 WHIP through 10.1 innings with Oklahoma City. Despite Gonzalez's lack of success in the majors this season, he'll be called upon to replace Bryan Hudson, who was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

The Pirates optioned De Los Santos to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

De Los Santos has been walking a tightrope this season with 13 walks in 24.1 innings out of the Pittsburgh bullpen, but he's been able to work around those free passes for the most part en route to a 3.33 ERA. He'll head down for the time being as the club adds reinforcements, but De Los Santos figures to be back before the end of the season.

Roberts (elbow) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Roberts has finally received the green light to face hitters for the first time since he underwent Tommy John surgery July 13 of last year. He'll likely throw multiple live batting practice sessions before eventually heading out on an extended rehab assignment that will likely last close to the maximum 30 days. Barring any setbacks, Roberts still has a chance to make his return from the 60-day injured list before season's end, though the Cubs will most likely option him to Triple-A Iowa once he's activated.

Burdi (appendectomy) is scheduled to make a rehab appearance Tuesday for the Cubs' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Burdi's rehab assignment will most likely last close to the entire 30-day window while he works his way back from an appendectomy, which has kept him on the 60-day injured list since late May. Even if the Cubs have room for Burdi in the bullpen once he completes his rehab, he'll likely be ticketed for lower-leverage work.
