  • Peter Lambert RP | HOU

Rockies' Peter Lambert: Slips up in fourth inning

Lambert (2-3) allowed five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four over 3.2 innings to take the loss Monday versus the Brewers.

Lambert held his own over the first three innings, but it all fell apart in the fourth. He's given up nine runs over his last eight innings while taking a pair of losses in his last two starts. The right-hander has a 5.57 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 47:22 K:BB through 53.1 innings over 19 appearances (five starts) this season. Lambert remains in the rotation despite his poor performance since the Rockies have no better options available. He's projected to face the Dodgers on the road this weekend.

  • David Bednar RP | NYY

Pirates' David Bednar: Yields run, earns save

Bednar allowed a run on one hit and earned a save over Atlanta on Monday.

For the first time this season, Bednar has allowed a run in consecutive appearances. His season ERA still sits at 1.54 with a 56:13 K:BB through 45 outings. Despite some recent shakiness, Bednar has converted 23 of 25 save chances this season, including 19 of his last 20.

  • Alexis Diaz RP | TEX

Reds' Alexis Diaz: Converts save Monday

Diaz walked two batters in a scoreless inning against Miami on Monday. He struck out one and earned a save.

Diaz got into trouble by walking the first two batters he faced but escaped the jam to close out the 5-2 win. It was the first time he walked multiple batters since June 20. Diaz has been shakier than usual lately, yielding five runs (four earned) over his last seven appearances. Despite that, he owns a strong 2.34 ERA while converting 33 of 34 saves through 50 innings this season.

  • Jose Alvarado RP | PHI

Phillies' Jose Alvarado: Nearing rehab assignment

Alvarado (elbow) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Thursday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Alvarado has made good progress since landing on the injured list in early July with an elbow issue, and he is nearly ready for the final step in his recovery.

  • Reds' Casey Legumina: Activated and optioned

The Reds reinstated Legumina (ankle) from the 15-day injured list Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville.

Legumina struck out two over four shutout innings across four appearances between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and the Triple-A club during his rehab assignment, but the Reds didn't have room from him in the bullpen even though he had moved past a right ankle contusion. He'll stick around in Louisville but should rank near the top of the list for a call-up the next time Cincinnati requires an extra right-handed reliever.

  • Brad Boxberger RP | CHC

Cubs' Brad Boxberger: Ready to face hitters

Boxberger (forearm) will throw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Boxberger tossed several bullpen sessions in late July, and he's now ready to move on to the next phase of his throwing program. If all goes well Tuesday, Boxberger may be cleared to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Boxberger has been stuck on the injured list since May 15 while recovering from a right forearm strain.

  • Justin Wilson RP | BOS

Brewers' Justin Wilson: Moved to 60-day IL

The Brewers transferred Wilson (lat) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.

Wilson opened the season on the IL while recovering from Tommy John surgery and was reinstated July 28, only to return to the IL one day later when he was diagnosed with a left lat strain. Manager Craig Counsell confirmed that Wilson's latest injury will keep him out for the season, so the veteran reliever's move to the 60-day IL was merely a formality. Wilson didn't make any appearances with the Brewers during his day-long stay on the active roster and only made five appearances for the Reds in 2022 before getting his elbow surgically repaired. The Brewers hold an affordable $2.5 million team option for Wilson in 2024, but his poor health record the past two years could be enough to dissuade Milwaukee from retaining the soon-to-be 36-year-old southpaw.

  • Bennett Sousa RP | HOU

Brewers' Bennett Sousa: Activated, returned to minors

Sousa (shoulder) was activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Monday.

Sousa had been on the IL since June 9 with left shoulder nerve irritation, but he's healthy again after he recently completed a four-appearance rehab assignment between Nashville and the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. The southpaw reliever has only made two appearances in the majors this season and coughed up two earned runs in both of those outings. He'll likely need to enjoy an extended run of success in Nashville before he gets another look with the Brewers.

  • Devin Smeltzer RP | MIA

Marlins' Devin Smeltzer: Remains in organization

Smeltzer cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Smeltzer is no longer on the Marlins' 40-man roster but will remain in the organization. The left-hander has tossed three scoreless innings during his brief time with Miami in 2023.

  • Geoff Hartlieb RP | ATH

Marlins' Geoff Hartlieb: Sent down to Triple-A

Hartlieb was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Hartlieb was with the big club for just one day, allowing one run in one inning of relief. He'll be moved off the 26-man active roster to clear a spot for right-hander Eury Perez, who was called up from Double-A Pensacola in advance of his start Monday in Cincinnati.
