  • Brewers' Carlos Rodriguez: Back in action at Triple-A

Rodriguez (forearm) has struck out eight batters and allowed seven earned runs on seven hits and five walks over seven innings in two appearances since being reinstated from Triple-A Nashville's 7-day injured list July 23.

Rodriguez was on the shelf for just under two months due to a right forearm strain. The 23-year-old right-hander possesses a spot on the Brewers' 40-man roster, but given the rustiness he's displayed since returning from the IL in addition to Milwaukee's ample rotation depth, Rodriguez is unlikely to be in the mix for starts at the big-league level anytime soon.

  • Jhoan Duran RP | PHI

Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Secures save Sunday

Duran struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Tigers.

Duran has converted a save in each of his first two appearances for the Phillies after being traded from the Twins at the deadline. The right-hander had a bit of a bumpy July to close out his Minnesota tenure, allowing four runs on 14 hits and four walks over 12 innings last month. Duran's save quantity should take a step up now that he's pitching for a contender, and he's unlikely to be challenged for closing duties. He's maintained a 1.93 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 54:18 K:BB through 51.1 innings while converting 18 of 20 save chances this season.

  • Braves' Hurston Waldrep: Returns to Triple-A

Atlanta optioned Waldrep to Triple-A Gwinnett after Sunday's 4-2 win over the Reds in the MLB Speedway Classic in Bristol, Tenn., Lindsay Crosby of AthlonSports.com reports.

Waldrep was called up to serve as Atlanta's 27th man for the continuation the Speedway Classic, which was suspended in the first inning Saturday. He ended up serving as a de facto starter for Atlanta, covering 5.2 innings and earning the win while allowing an earned run on three hits and two walks. The outing was his first major-league appearance of the season, and he made a good impression for an Atlanta squad that has struggled to find healthy bodies for the rotation. The right-hander will return to Gwinnett, but he'll be a strong candidate to rejoin Atlanta to make a spot start or serve as a bulk reliever in Saturday's doubleheader with Miami.

  • Robert Suarez RP | ATL

Padres' Robert Suarez: Works out of jam for save

Suarez allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Cardinals.

The Padres didn't appear to be in need of their closer for much of this game, but Adrian Morejon created a disaster in the ninth inning, allowing two runs while failing to record an out. Suarez took over with the bases loaded and allowed one inherited runner to score on a sacrifice fly before slamming the door to earn his 32nd save of the year. Suarez has earned both of the Padres' saves since the trade deadline, so it looks like he's still ahead of Mason Miller in the closer hierarchy. On the year, Suarez has maintained a 3.28 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 48:12 K:BB, and he's been charged with just two runs over 12 innings since the start of July.

  • Brad Lord P | WAS

Nationals' Brad Lord: Falls to Milwaukee

Lord (2-6) took the loss Sunday against the Brewers, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks across 4.2 innings. He struck out six.

The Brewers got to Lord early Sunday, scratching out a run in the first inning before Brice Turang launched a two-run homer in the second. The 25-year-old Lord had allowed just two runs over 9.1 innings in his previous two outings. Overall, his ERA sits at 3.42 with a 1.23 WHIP and 65:26 K:BB across 79 innings in a swing role this year. Lord is tentatively lined up to face the Giants on the road in his next start.

  • Cubs' Daniel Palencia: Blows save, earns win Sunday

Palencia (1-2) allowed a run on two hits across an inning of work but managed to earn the win in Sunday's 5-3 victory over the Orioles. He struck out one.

Staked to a 3-2 lead to begin the top of the ninth inning, Palencia allowed a run to blow his second save this season in 17 chances. However, he minimized the damage from there and managed to record his first win of the year when the Cubs scored twice in the bottom of the inning. Palencia has been lights-out for Chicago, compiling a 1.55 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 43 strikeouts across 40.2 innings, and he's emerged as the clear top closer for a Cubs team sitting 19 games above .500, giving him plenty of fantasy value in his role.

  • Dodgers' Ben Casparius: Notches second save

Casparius recorded the final out in Sunday's 3-0 win over Tampa Bay to earn his second save of the season.

The Dodgers initially turned to Blake Treinen in the ninth inning, though he was able to record only two outs while allowing a hit and a pair of walks. Casparius was then called upon with the bases loaded, where he'd retire Yandy Diaz for his second save this year, both of which have come in the past 10 days. The 26-year-old Casparius should remain firmly in LA's ninth-inning mix due to Treinen struggling and both Kirby Yates (back) and Tanner Scott (elbow) being on the IL.

  • Ryan Loutos RP | SEA

Nationals' Ryan Loutos: Headed back to Rochester

Washington optioned Loutos to Triple-A Rochester following Sunday's 14-3 loss to the Brewers, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Loutos pitched two-thirds of an inning in the series finale, surrendering a two-run home run to Brice Turang, which allowed an inherited runner to score. The right-hander also appeared in the series opener Friday, giving up five runs (three earned) on five hits, including a home run. On the season, Loutos now owns an inflated 12.75 ERA and 2.33 WHIP with eight strikeouts over 12 innings in 12 appearances between the Nationals and Dodgers.

  • Nick Anderson RP | COL

Rockies' Nick Anderson: Rejoins big club

The Rockies recalled Anderson from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday.

The right-hander was demoted to Triple-A on Monday but is back with the Rockies with Seth Halvorsen (elbow) landing on the injured list in a corresponding move. Anderson surrendered five earned runs over one innings during his lone appearance with Colorado following his call-up in late July.

  • Rockies' Seth Halvorsen: Shut down with elbow strain

The Rockies placed Halvorsen on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a right elbow strain.

Halvorsen's elbow acted up Saturday, prompting the Rockies to pull him from the contest midway through Spencer Horwitz's at-bat. Though Dugan Darnell ended up finishing out the contest, Victor Vodnik and Juan Mejia could be the top options for saves while Halvorsen is on the shelf. According to Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post, the right-hander will undergo an MRI on Sunday, and he's likely to miss more than the minimum 15 days. Halvorsen has converted 11 of 14 save chances while providing a 4.99 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 36:21 K:BB in 39.2 innings on the season.
