  • Cole Waites RP | DET

Giants' Cole Waites: Optioned to Triple-A

Waites was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento by the Giants on Thursday, Amy Gutierrez of the Giants' official site reports.

The move happened after San Francisco's victory over Arizona on Thursday. It clears room for Alex Wood, who is coming off the 15-day injured list Friday. Waites will likely be an up-and-down option for the Giants throughout the 2023 campaign.

  • Diamondbacks' Anthony Misiewicz: Recalled from Triple-A

Arizona recalled Misiewicz from Triple-A Reno on Friday.

The left-hander will replace Joe Mantiply, who landed on the 15-day injured list with a strained right hamstring. Misiewicz was previously with the D-Backs in April, and he registered a 3.86 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 4.2 innings.

  • Joe Mantiply RP | TOR

Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Placed on 15-day IL

Arizona placed Mantiply on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to May 9, with a right hamstring strain.

Anthony Misiewicz has been called up from Triple-A Reno to handle a lefty relief role. The 32-year-old Mantiply was sporting a sharp 2.35 ERA with eight strikeouts and zero walks through 7.2 innings this season. He's expected to be out 3-4 weeks.

  • Caleb Ferguson RP | CIN

Dodgers' Caleb Ferguson: Activated from paternity leave

Ferguson was activated Friday from the paternity list.

Ferguson is back in the Dodgers' bullpen ahead of Friday night's series opener against the Padres after spending a few days away from the club to be with his growing family.

  • Javier Assad RP | CHC

Cubs' Javier Assad: Optioned to Triple-A

The Cubs optioned Assad to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Assad has allowed 10 earned runs over 17.2 major-league innings (one start, four relief appearances) this year for a 5.09 ERA. He'll presumably join the rotation at Iowa.

  • Brandon Hughes RP | CHC

Cubs' Brandon Hughes: Activated from injured list

Hughes (knee) was activated Friday from the 15-day injured list, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

After recovering from another bout of left knee inflammation, Hughes will return to the Cubs' bullpen Friday night against the Twins. He's been limited to five appearances this year.

  • Wander Suero RP | ATH

Dodgers' Wander Suero: Optioned to Triple-A

Suero was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City by the Dodgers on Thursday.

Suero posted a 5.79 ERA across three relief appearances with the big club in his first major-league stint since 2021. He'll head back to OKC and hope to earn another call.

  • John Brebbia RP | COL

    Giants' John Brebbia: Opening Friday

Brebbia will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Brebbia has served as an opener once previously this season, and he worked 1.1 innings in that appearance. Alex Wood (hamstring) or Ross Stripling are the likely options to follow Brebbia in a bulk role.

  • Kevin Herget RP | NYM

Reds' Kevin Herget: Nails down three-inning save

Herget earned a save over the Mets on Thursday, hurling three scoreless innings during which he allowed two hits and struck out four batters.

Cincinnati used four pitchers in what amounted to a bullpen game Thursday, with each of those tossing over one inning and holding New York scoreless. Herget entered in the seventh and closed things out, throwing 44 pitches over three scoreless frames to pick up his first career save. The right-hander has pitched well for the Reds this season with just two earned runs allowed over 10.2 frames, but it's unlikely that he'll see many more save opportunities with Alexis Diaz firmly entrenched as the team's closer.

  • Abner Uribe RP | MIL

Brewers' Abner Uribe: Placed on minor-league IL

Uribe was placed on the 7-day injured list Thursday at Double-A Biloxi due to right knee soreness, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

It's not considered a serious injury, but the Brewers will play things cautiously with one of their top relief prospects. Uribe, 22, has registered a 1.00 ERA with 17 strikeouts through nine innings this season out of Biloxi's bullpen.
