Elieser Hernandez RP | ATL
Mets' Elieser Hernandez: Goes on IL
The Mets placed Hernandez (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Hernandez appears likely to miss the first few weeks of the season, but because he's reportedly resumed playing catch since being diagnosed with the right shoulder strain, the 27-year-old could be ready to pitch in games by late April or early May. Though the Mets had initially earmarked Hernandez for a spot in the Triple-A Syracuse rotation, he could end up getting a look in Queens sooner than anticipated with two big-league starters -- Justin Verlander (shoulder) and Jose Quintana (rib) -- already joining him on the shelf to begin the season.

Edwin Diaz RP | LAD
Mets' Edwin Diaz: Goes on 60-day IL
The Mets placed Diaz (knee) on the 60-day injured list Thursday.
Diaz's move to the 60-day IL was fully expected after he recently underwent surgery to address a tore patellar tendon in his right knee, an injury he sustained while celebrating Team Puerto Rico's win over Team Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic earlier this month. With Diaz facing an estimated six-month recovery from surgery, he appears unlikely to be available during the regular season, and even a return in October or November if the Mets make a deep playoff run seems implausible. Manager Buck Showalter has yet to name a new closer in Diaz's absence, though veteran relievers David Robertson, Adam Ottavino and Brooks Raley look to be the most likely candidates to pick up saves.

Corbin Martin RP | CHC
Diamondbacks' Corbin Martin: Placed on 15-day IL
Arizona placed Martin (lat) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Martin recently underwent season-ending surgery to address a right lat tendon avulsion. The Diamondbacks will move him to 60-day IL once they need to open up a 40-man roster spot.

Alex Reyes RP | LAD
Dodgers' Alex Reyes: IL move official
Reyes (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Reyes is expected to miss the first couple months of the 2023 regular season as he continues his recovery from shoulder surgery last May. He joined the Dodgers on a one-year, $1.1 million contract just before the start of spring training.

Stephen Ridings RP | NYM
Mets' Stephen Ridings: Lands on 15-day injured list
The Mets placed Ridings (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list with a right lat strain.
Ridings is still working his way back from a shoulder injury that limited him to just two minor-league rehab appearances in 2022, and though he was expected to pitch in a Grapefruit League game at some point, that never came to fruition before spring training. The Mets are now classifying his injury as a lat strain, but it's unclear whether he suffered any sort of setback with the shoulder issue he dealt with a season ago.

Sam Coonrod RP | NYM
Mets' Sam Coonrod: Moves to injured list
Coonrod (lat) was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 27.
Coonrod was diagnosed with a high-grade lat strain two weeks ago, so it's no surprise he's beginning the season on the shelf. The right-hander doesn't have an official timeline for his return, but he shouldn't be expected to be available for the Mets anytime soon.

Robert Stephenson RP | LAA
Pirates' Robert Stephenson: Placed on 15-day IL
Stephenson (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 27.
Stephenson managed to get into Grapefruit League action before spring training came to an end, but he'll require a little more build-up after battling lingering right elbow soreness for most of camp.

Jarlin Garcia RP | PIT
Pirates' Jarlin Garcia: Placed on 60-day IL
Garcia (biceps) was placed on the 60-day injured list Thursday.
Garcia was diagnosed earlier this month with a nerve issue in his left biceps and is going to be in no-throw mode through at least mid-April.
