Wilson allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings in Friday's 5-4 win over the Reds. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision.

All three runs against Wilson came via the long ball. He gave up a two-run shot to Nick Senzel in the second inning followed by TJ Friedl's solo blast in the fifth. Wilson completed seven innings for the first time in his MLB career and lowered his season ERA to 5.74 through 78.1 frames. The 24-year-old is lined up to start in Philadelphia next week.

Bender (elbow), who was placed on the injured list Sunday, will require Tommy John surgery, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The 27-year-old's initial diagnosis was a right elbow strain after he exited a game last weekend against Atlanta, and he's apparently dealing with damage to the UCL. Bender will miss the rest of the season and should also be expected to be sidelined for the full 2023 campaign. He recorded six saves and three holds with a 3.26 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 17:8 K:BB across 19.1 innings this year.

Nance was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The right-hander was demoted to Jacksonville on Sunday, but he'll be able to rejoin the big-league club before spending the minimum 10 days in the minors since Garrett Cooper (concussion) was placed on the injured list. Nance has a 5.46 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 41:14 K:BB across 28 innings for Miami this year.

Romero was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

Romero was acquired from the Phillies in late July and will join the big-league club after spending the past few weeks with Memphis. The 25-year-old missed the first half of the season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and he hasn't allowed a run over seven innings at Triple-A since returning from the IL.

Hernandez was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Hernandez surrendered three runs over one inning during Wednesday's game against the Padres, and he'll now head down to the minors. The 27-year-old has appeared in 19 games this season (nine starts) and has a 6.33 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 57:22 K:BB across 58.1 innings.

Helsley was placed on the paternity list Friday.

Helsley hasn't pitched since he delivered a scoreless frame Tuesday against the Rockies, and he'll now step away from the team for a few days to be with his family. He should rejoin the Cardinals for Monday's series opener against the Cubs. Giovanny Gallegos is the likely candidate to fill in for any save chances this weekend in Arizona, though the team hasn't officially named a fill-in closer.

Santillan (back) is unlikely to return this season, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Manager David Bell called it a "long shot" to expect Santillan to return from his lower-back strain this season. Alexis Diaz has emerged as the Reds' go-to option for saves in Santillan's absence.

Finnegan registered a save against the Padres on Thursday, walking two batters and notching one strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning.

Finnegan threw only seven of 19 pitches for strikes and walked two of the first three batters he faced, but he was able to escape with the save after inducing a game-ending double play. Carl Edwards, who has picked up a pair of saves recently, looked better in the contest (he tossed a perfect frame and notched the win), but Finnegan is probably still the favorite for closing opportunities for now. He's gone 5-for-6 in save chances since the All-Star break.

Williams struck out the side without allowing a baserunner to earn the save Thursday against the Dodgers.

Williams entered the game with a two-run lead and had little trouble shutting the door on the Dodgers to earn his eighth save of the season. He's allowed only one earned run across his last 37 appearances -- dating back to May 13-- and he owns an excellent 1.55 ERA and 75:19 K:BB across 46.1 innings. Williams has also collected two of the team's four saves since Josh Hader was traded to San Diego.

Jansen earned the save over the Mets on Thursday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in one inning.

Jansen was handed the ball in the ninth inning and asked to protect a one-run lead. He allowed a leadoff single to Francisco Lindor but was able to keep New York from tying the game. Jansen has earned a save in each of his past four appearances, tossing four scoreless innings and registering four strikeouts over that stretch. He's tied for second in the majors with 28 saves on the campaign and has blown only four chances.
