Mantiply pitched a scoreless inning of relief to earn his fourth hold in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Cubs.

Mantiply recorded the final two outs of the seventh inning then retired the first batter in the eighth before letting Ian Kennedy shepherd the lead to closer Mark Melancon. Two of the three batted balls Mantiply allowed had exit velocities over 100 mph, but those were easily handled infield grounders. The left-hander has allowed only one run over 15.2 innings, fanning 13 and walking one.

Melancon didn't allow a baserunner and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to tally the save Thursday against the Cubs.

Manager Torey Lovullo declared that Melancon would remain the team's closer despite allowing 10 earned runs across his last four innings entering Thursday's appearance. As promised, Melancon was called upon in the ninth inning to protect a two-run lead, and he did so to collect his eighth save of the season. Despite the encouraging outing, Melancon still has only five strikeouts across 13.1 innings on the campaign.

Pallante allowed three hits and struck out two over two scoreless innings during Thursday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Mets.

Since giving up a run versus Arizona on May 1, Pallante has strung together six scoreless innings in his last six appearances. The reliever has added three holds in that span as he begun to earn some trust with manager Oliver Marmol. Pallante's biggest issue so far has been walks -- he's permitted six walks during his scoreless streak. He's yet to really be punished for the free passes with a 1.02 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 11:8 K:BB across 17.2 innings this season.

Gallegos blew the save after allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit without recording an out during Thursday's 7-6 loss to the Mets.

Gallegos came on in the bottom of the 10th with the designated runner on second and a one-run lead, and he promptly gave up a walk-off, two-run homer to the first batter he faced, Pete Alonso. It was the relievers' second blown save of the campaign in just nine opportunities. Ryan Helsley, who has allowed only one unearned run with a 24:2 K:BB over 13.2 innings, could begin to see more save chances if Gallegos continues to falter.

Hudson didn't factor into the decision after allowing four runs on five hits and two walks across 4.2 innings during Thursday's 7-6 loss to the Mets. He struck out two.

Hudson struggled out of the gate, allowing two runs in the first, but he was able to settle down over the next three innings. However, the Mets offense got going again in the fifth, ultimately chasing Hudson before he could get out of the inning. His next start is tentatively scheduled for next Thursday against Milwaukee.

Diaz blew the save after allowing one run on two hits and two walks across one inning during Thursday's 7-6 win over the Cardinals. He struck out two .

Diaz allowed a game-tying RBI single to Paul Goldschmidt in the top of the ninth but was able to limit the damage by striking out Juan Yepez. The 28-year-old right-hander is 9-for11 in save opportunities to start the year, and his strikeout numbers (32 punchouts through 17 innings) are on pace with the best closers in the league.

Rogers earned the save after allowing zero runs on one hit and one walk across 1.1 innings during Thursday's 2-0 win over the Phillies. He struck out two.

Rogers entered with two outs in the eighth and allowed a two-out single to Kyle Schwarber that put runners on first and third. The left-hander closed the door on the Phillies' rally by getting Nick Castellanos to ground into a fielders choice. Rogers worked around a two-out walk in the ninth to notch his third multi-inning save and his 15th total of the season. The offseason acquisition has been nearly perfect for the Padres to start the season, blowing just one save in 16 attempts while sporting a 20:3 K:BB.

Rucker was placed on the 15-day injured list due to turf toe Thursday, retroactive to May 17, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

Rucker has made eight relief appearances for the Cubs this year, and he's posted a 4.20 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 15 innings. The right-hander will be sidelined until at least early June due to his toe injury, but it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to return once he's first eligible.

Santillan earned the save in Thursday's win over the Guardians. He struck out one batter in 1.2 perfect innings.

When Alexis Diaz made a mess of things in the eighth inning, Santillan was there to clean up. He got a double play to end the eighth and then retired the side in order in the ninth to secure his second save of the season, and first since Opening Day. Diaz has the best numbers in the Cincinnati bullpen, but Diaz is inexperienced, and manager David Bell likes to mix and match anyway. Santillan, Art Warren and others will likely remain in the mix for the occasional save as the chances get spread around.

Double-A Altoona activated Mlodzinski (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Thursday, Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The right shoulder injury that kept Mlodzinski on the shelf proved to be a minor concern, as he was sidelined for less than two weeks. For the season, the 23-year-old right-hander has turned in a 4.63 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 23.1 innings at Altoona.
