Helsley has an unblemished ERA and 5:2 K:BB across 4.2 innings covering his last four appearances.

That solid stretch includes a one-inning outing against the Nationals on Wednesday, his fourth straight without allowing a run. It represents a strong rebound for Helsley, who opened the season by giving up five earned runs on seven hits and four walks across 2.2 innings in his first three appearances.

Reyes fired a scoreless ninth inning in a loss to the Nationals on Wednesday, allowing no hits and a walk with a strikeout and a wild pitch.

Despite the somewhat busy final line, Reyes still threw only 16 pitches while appearing in his first game action since last Thursday. The hard-throwing right-hander carries an unblemished ERA through five appearances, three which have culminated in saves.

Treinen struck out two and allowed one hit in a scoreless inning, earning a hold in Wednesday's 4-2 win over Colorado.

The right-handed sinkerballer has strung together four consecutive scoreless outings after a shaky 2021 debut, lowering his ERA to a respectable 3.60. The 32-year-old's best days may be behind him, but his stuff remains elite, and since he's pitching for a team that presumes to hold late leads in the majority of its games this season, Treinen should continue to earn plenty of hold opportunities.

Curtiss (2-0) struck out one and allowed one hit in one inning of work, earning the win in Wednesday's 6-5 victory over Atlanta.

The righty has settled in after allowing homers in his first two appearances of 2021, as he hasn't given up a run in his ensuing three outings -- lowering his ERA to 3.38 in the process. The two winning decisions -- coincidental products of his team taking the lead late in games -- likely are anomalies for Curtiss, although continued success in late-game situations may earn him more high-leverage innings and opportunities for holds, especially now that Anthony Bass has yielded the closer role to Yimi Garcia.

Matzek (0-1) allowed a single and struck out the side in the 10th inning, getting the loss in Wednesday's 6-5 defeat against Miami.

Another casualty of the rule putting a runner on second to start extra innings, Matzek suffered the loss despite pitching phenomenally. After yielding a leadoff RBI double, the flame-throwing lefty struck out the next three batters on 12 pitches, only one of which was a ball. Matzek struggled with control in spring training and in his first few regular-season appearances, but he hasn't walked a batter in his last three innings pitched. The veteran's ERA remains at 0.00 through 5.2 early season innings, and he looks capable of replicating his breakout performance from 2020.

Lamet (elbow) is slated to throw a 70-pitch simulated game at the Padres' alternate training site Thursday, the Associated Press reports.

Lamet has been working his way back toward a starter's workload and was at one point thought to be an option for San Diego's upcoming three-game series against the Dodgers. Instead, he'll get the chance to stretch out further in a sim game Thursday. If all goes well, the right-hander's return to game action could come as soon as next week.

Loup struck out two in 1.2 perfect innings, recording his first hold of the season in Wednesday's 5-1 win over Philadelphia.

Wednesday's outing was the better of Loup's two thus far in 2021, with the first highlighted by a hit batter and two unearned runs. The 33-year-old had one of his best seasons in 2020 with Tampa Bay, posting a 2.52 ERA resemblant of his 2012-13 seasons in Toronto. Loup will be an essential change-of-pace reliever for the Mets this season as the only lefty -- and a sidearm-throwing one at that -- in a bullpen full of hard-throwing righties.

Jansen earned the save against Colorado on Wednesday, hurling a scoreless inning and allowing one walk while striking out three.

Jansen was called upon in the ninth inning to protect a two-run lead. The veteran closer began his outing by walking Dom Nunez, but he took control from there, striking out each of the subsequent three batters. Following a blown save against Oakland on April 7, Jansen has bounced back with saves in each of his following two appearances. He hasn't allowed a run or a hit while registering a 5:1 K:BB over two innings during that span.

Garcia struck out two in a perfect 10th inning Wednesday to record his second save of the season in a 6-5 win over Atlanta.

He fired 11 of 12 pitches for strikes and impressively fanned the red-hot Ronald Acuna and Marcell Ozuna to nail down the victory. Garcia has a 1.23 ERA and 7:3 K:BB through 7.1 innings to begin the year, and he quickly seems to be locking down the closer role in Miami.

Weathers will start Friday's game against the Dodgers, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The 21-year-old has picked up a save and a win while allowing one run over six innings through his first three big-league appearances, and he's now set to make his first start in the majors Friday. Weathers threw 31 pitches over two innings Saturday and is unlikely to have the workload of a traditional starter, so it's difficult to see him being able to qualify for a victory. The young left-hander receives a tough draw versus the reigning World Series champions, and it will likely only be a spot start before a return to the bullpen with Dinelson Lamet (elbow) closing in on being activated from the injured list.
