  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Locks down four-out save

Diaz earned the save in a 7-3 win over the Brewers in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader, striking out three across 1.1 perfect innings.

Diaz was called upon in the eighth inning after the Brewers got the tying run to the plate with two outs. He'd strike out Jake Bauers to retire the side before setting Milwaukee down in order in the ninth, securing his 16th save in 17 chances this year. Diaz has turned in eight straight scoreless appearances (7.2 innings), allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out 10 in that span. His ERA is down to 1.91 with a 0.91 WHIP and 49 strikeouts across 33 innings this season.

  • Giants' Carson Seymour: Sent back to minors

The Giants optioned Seymour to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Seymour tossed a scoreless inning during his MLB debut Sunday but followed it up by giving up four runs (two earned) over three frames Tuesday. He's now heading back to Sacramento in favor of Mason Black.

  • Kyle Nelson RP | ATL

Diamondbacks' Kyle Nelson: DFA'd by Arizona

The Diamondbacks designated Nelson for assignment Wednesday.

The D-backs needed to make room on the 40-man roster after signing Jake Woodford to a big-league deal Wednesday, and Nelson will end up as the odd man out. The 28-year-old has struggled in the minors this year, giving up 16 earned runs in just 18 innings at Triple-A Reno while striking out 12 batters and walking eight.

  • Juan Morillo P | ARI

Diamondbacks' Juan Morillo: Optioned to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Morillo to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old's move to the minors will clear a spot on the active roster for Jake Woodford, who signed with the D-backs on Wednesday. Morillo has posted a 4.01 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 24.2 innings in the majors this year, and he could return to Arizona later in the season when the Diamondbacks need a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Robert Suarez RP | ATL

Padres' Robert Suarez: Notches 24th save

Suarez recorded his 24th save of the season in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Phillies, allowing one run on three hits and striking out one in the ninth inning.

The Padres took a three-run lead into the ninth, giving Suarez the cushion to survive a few singles. The 34-year-old closer has hit a rough patch since mid-June, getting tagged for runs in five of his last eight appearances while stumbling to a 16.89 ERA, 3.56 WHIP and 5:4 K:BB over his last 5.1 innings, but he's blown only one of four save chances during that swoon. Jeremiah Estrada, Yuki Matsui and Adrian Morejon have all picked up saves as well since June 19, and Jason Adam would also likely be a factor in the ninth if manager Mike Shildt elects to shift Suarez into a lower-leverage role until he rights the ship.

  • Craig Yoho RP | MIL

Brewers' Craig Yoho: Joins big club as 27th man

The Brewers recalled Yoho from Triple-A Nashville ahead of the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Mets and designated him as their 27th man.

Yoho will be up for his second cup of coffee with Milwaukee after he previously received his first big-league call-up in late April and allowed six earned runs in 5.2 innings over five relief appearances before being optioned to Nashville. Since reporting back to Triple-A on May 3, Yoho has looked sharp in a middle-innings role, turning in a 2.12 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB over 17 frames. He'll provide Milwaukee with a fresh bullpen arm for the second game of the twin bill but isn't likely to be put to work in a high-leverage spot.

  • Mets' Huascar Brazoban: Opening second game of twin bill

Brazoban will serve as the Mets' opening pitcher for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Brewers, Manny Gomez of NJ.com reports.

Brazoban isn't expected to cover more than an inning or two before giving way to right-hander Blade Tidwell, who was initially scheduled to start but will instead work in bulk relief. The Mets have used Brazoban as an opener on two other occasions this season.

  • Kevin Herget RP | NYM

Braves' Kevin Herget: Demoted to Triple-A

Atlanta optioned Herget to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.

Herget will give up his spot in the Atlanta bullpen to right-hander Daysbel Hernandez (forearm), who was reinstated from the injured list. After being recalled from Gwinnett on Saturday, Herget tossed a scoreless inning in his lone appearance for Atlanta in Tuesday's game against the Angels before being moved off the 26-man active roster.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Back from injured list

Atlanta activated Hernandez (forearm) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Hernandez missed the last month of action with right forearm inflammation but is ready to roll after making one scoreless rehab appearance. The righty was handling a high-leverage role before getting hurt but could be eased back into the late innings.

  • Austin Cox RP | ATL

Braves' Austin Cox: Brought up from Triple-A

Atlanta recalled Cox from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.

Cox was optioned to Gwinnett less than a week ago, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the big club because Atlanta placed right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. The 28-year-old will provide manager Brian Snitker with a fourth left-handed option in the bullpen behind Dylan Lee, Aaron Bummer and Dylan Dodd.
