Bubba Chandler P | PIT
Pirates' Bubba Chandler: Dominant over five frames in win
Chandler (3-1) earned the win against the Athletics on Saturday, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out six over five scoreless innings.
Chandler flashed his ace potential Saturday, firing 47 of 68 pitches for strikes while generating 15 whiffs and limiting the Athletics to just a second-inning double. Since getting tagged for nine runs by the Brewers on Sept. 7, the 23-year-old has allowed only one run on three hits with a 13:0 K:BB across his past two outings. He'll carry a 4.56 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 25:4 K:BB over his first 25.2 major-league innings into a road matchup with Atlanta next weekend.

Dennis Santana RP | PIT
Pirates' Dennis Santana: Converts 14th save
Santana earned the save in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Athletics, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.
Santana was tasked with preserving a team shutout and needed just 10 pitches to close it out. The 29-year-old has now converted eight straight saves dating back to Aug. 8 while allowing only two earned runs over 17 appearances in that span. For the season, he's 14-for-16 in save chances with a 2.18 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 55:16 K:BB across 66 innings.

Trevor McDonald SP | SF
Giants' Trevor McDonald: Drawing first MLB start Sunday
McDonald will start Sunday's game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury Newsreports.
After being called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, McDonald made his 2025 Giants debut later that night and pitched two innings out of the bullpen against the Diamondbacks, allowing two earned runs on three hits and a walk. He had been working out of the Triple-A rotation prior to his promotion, so he should be able to handle a traditional starter's workload Sunday, if the Giants desire. Tristan Beck, Carson Seymour and Spencer Bivens are candidates to cover multiple innings out of the bullpen if needed.

Jordan Wicks SP | CHC
Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Back in majors
Wicks was recalled from Triple-A Iowa prior to Saturday's game against the Reds.
Wicks will return as left-handed bullpen depth after compiling a 3.55 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 77 strikeouts in 71 innings operating as a starter who typically pitches fewer than five innings. He has an 8.71 ERA and 2.03 WHIP in 10.1 innings in the majors this year.

Bruce Zimmermann SP | MIL
Brewers' Bruce Zimmermann: Selected from Nashville
The Brewers selected Zimmermann's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Saturday.
Zimmermann has been at Nashville all season, turning in a 4.11 ERA and 1.23 WHIP alongside a 109:30 K:BB through 138 innings. Now back in the majors for the first time since 2023, the 30-year-old will provide Milwaukee with a left-handed bullpen option capable of pitching multiple innings. Joel Payamps was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Joel Payamps RP | ATL
Brewers' Joel Payamps: DFA'd by Crew
The Brewers designated Payamps for assignment Saturday.
Payamps owns a 7.23 ERA and 1.61 WHIP through 23.2 innings in the big leagues this year, though he gave up just two runs in 5.1 frames during his latest run with the big club. He'll now lose his place on the 40-man roster for the second time this season, freeing up space for Bruce Zimmermann.

Reed Garrett RP | NYM
Mets' Reed Garrett: Headed for surgery
Garrett has been recommended for Tommy John surgery, but he may delay a decision on that procedure until he recovers from another surgery on his arm, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
The 32-year-old reliever landed on the IL on Thursday, and he appears headed for a lengthy absence. Garrett is already set for surgery to shift a nerve in his pitching arm that's been causing him issues, and he may elect to undergo PRP injections this winter after recovering to see if his elbow can recover without full Tommy John surgery. If he takes that route and still needs to go under the knife, however, Garrett might not be ready to pitch again until the 2027 season.

Emilio Pagan RP | CIN
Reds' Emilio Pagan: Secures 28th save
Pagan gave up a hit in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his 28th save of the season in a 7-4 win over the Cubs.
The 34-year-old right-hander has already set a new career high in saves, but with eight games left on the Reds' schedule, Pagan's got a shot at his first 30-save campaign. Opportunities have been hard to come by of late, however -- over the last month, he has a 3.18 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 17:1 K:BB through 11.1 innings, but Pagan's managed just three saves in four chances.
