The Giants optioned Avila to Double-A Richmond on Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Avila is being sent to Richmond rather than Triple-A Sacramento because the Giants are on the East Coast and may need to recall Avila if Blake Snell goes on the paternity list. The reliever holds a 9.31 ERA over 9.2 innings with the Giants this season.

The Marlins recalled Ramirez from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.

He joined the bullpen as a replacement for Anthony Maldonado, who was optioned to Jacksonville in a corresponding move. Since being called up, Ramirez's lone relief appearance came in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Brewers, when he struck out one over 1.1 scoreless innings.

Atlanta re-signed Stephens to a minor-league contract Monday.

For the second time since the start of April, Stephens rejoined Atlanta after declining an outright assignment and electing free agency. The right-handed reliever has thrown 3.1 innings in the big leagues in 2024, allowing one run. He's been assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Helsley walked one and struck out one in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Orioles.

The game was suspended due to inclement weather Tuesday and resumed Wednesday, which likely means he'll be unavailable for Wednesday's regularly scheduled contest. Nolan Gorman hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to give the Cardinals a lead, and Helsley was able to close it out for his 15th save of the season. He extended his scoreless streak to 11 innings and now has a 1.23 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB over 22 innings this season.

The Cardinals recalled Roycroft from Triple-A Memphis and designated him as the 27th man for Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Because the Orioles and Cardinals resumed Tuesday's suspended game earlier Wednesday, both teams were allotted a 27th man for the contest that was initially scheduled for Wednesday. Roycroft will provide the Cardinals with a fresh arm out of the bullpen for the series finale but will likely be returned to Memphis immediately following the game.

Miller (0-2) allowed an unearned run on one hit without retiring a batter to take the extra-inning loss Tuesday versus the Pirates.

Miller gave up a walk-off single to Nick Gonzales in the 10th inning after the duo of Luke Jackson and Camilo Doval gave away a four-run lead in the ninth. This was the first time in May that Miller gave up a run without surrendering a homer. The southpaw has allowed four runs (three earned) with an 11:8 K:BB over nine innings this month, and he's at a mediocre 4.50 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 28:14 K:BB through 22 innings overall. Miller has also added eight holds and taken two blown saves.

Bednar (3-3) picked up the win Tuesday, striking out one in a perfect 10th inning during a 7-6 victory over the Giants.

After the Pirates rallied for four runs in the ninth, Bednar got the call for the top of the 10th and set down three straight pinch hitters in Mike Yastrzemski, LaMonte Wade and Patrick Bailey. The right-hander then got rewarded when Nick Gonzales walked it off by singling on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the frame. Bednar has turned things around following a bumpy first month of the season, and over 10 appearances in May he's posted a 2.89 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB through 9.1 innings while converting all five of his save chances and chipping in two wins.

Doval gave up two unearned runs on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning Tuesday to blow his first save of the season in a 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Pirates. He struck out one.

The Giants rolled into the ninth inning with a 6-2 lead, but after Luke Jackson put two runners aboard with one out, Doval got the call and coaxed a potential double-play grounder from Andrew McCutchen, only for Marco Luciano to boot it and pave the way for a Pirates rally. Doval's control has taken a step backward this season, as he has a 15.7 percent walk rate compared to a 9.3 percent mark in 2023, but he still carries a 2.89 ERA to go with his 1.45 WHIP, 25:13 K:BB through 18.2 innings and eight saves.

The Marlins optioned Maldonado to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.

In a weak and shallow Marlins farm system, Maldonado is one of the few fantasy-relevant prospects, albeit for deeper leagues. He had a 3.75 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, seven strikeouts and one save in 12 innings with the big club. Maldonado threw his mid-80s slider two-thirds of the time and his 93 mile-per-hour fastball just over 30 percent of the time while in the majors.

Megill gave up a hit and struck out three in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his seventh save of the season in a 7-5 win over the Marlins.

After blowing his first save of the season the night before, Megill bounced back and fired 11 of 14 pitches for strikes to get the job done, with five of his fastballs clocking in at 99 mph or higher. The right-hander sports a 1.98 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB through 13.2 innings this season, and with Devin Williams (back) just now beginning to toss a baseball, Megill figures to handle closing duties with Milwaukee for at least another couple months.
