Mets' Adam Ottavino: Escapes with save

Ottavino allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning Sunday, striking out two and earning a save over the Twins.

Ottavino put two runners on with one out but danced around the threat to finish off the 2-0 win Sunday. He's given up just one run over his last 10 innings, dropping his season ERA to 3.05 through 60 appearances. He's converted nine of his 12 save chances, including three of his last four.

  • Ryan Yarbrough RP | NYY

Dodgers' Ryan Yarbrough: Heading to paternity list

Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Yarbrough will be placed on the paternity list in the near future, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Yarbrough started Sunday's game against the Nationals and allowed two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out five in four innings. However, he'll now be away from the team for at least three days following the birth of his child. The Dodgers are expected to make the move official Monday and plan to call up Gavin Stone from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding transaction.

  • Marlins' Enmanuel De Jesus: Sent back to Triple-A

De Jesus was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The 26-year-old had his contract selected by Miami on Friday and made his debut Saturday in Philadelphia, allowing three earned runs over 4.1 innings. De Jesus will head back to Jacksonville while Daniel Castano claims the open roster spot.

  • Joe Mantiply RP | TOR

    Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Opening Sunday

Mantiply will start Sunday's game against the Cubs, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

The 32-year-old will make his third start of the season as the Diamondbacks decided to go with an opener ahead of expected primary pitcher Brandon Pfaadt, who was originally scheduled to start the contest. Mantiply has covered as much as three frames in an appearance this season, but he's likely to pitch only an inning or two Sunday.

  • Wander Suero RP | ATH

Dodgers' Wander Suero: Selected to MLB bullpen

The Dodgers selected Suero's contract from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Suero lost his 40-man roster spot back in May, but he remained with the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed and will get another look in the Los Angeles bullpen as Gus Varland (knee) heads to the 15-day injured list.

  • Gus Varland RP | WAS

Dodgers' Gus Varland: Placed on 15-day IL

The Dodgers placed Varland on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right knee inflammation, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Varland will be sidelined for at least the next couple of weeks. He's worked to a 3.09 ERA and 14:8 K:BB in 11.2 major-league innings this season with Los Angeles.

  • Daniel Castano RP | MIA

Marlins' Daniel Castano: Returns to majors

The Marlins selected Castano's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Castano made an appearance for the Marlins in early April and was designated for assignment in June, but he'll rejoin the 26-man and 40-man rosters ahead of Sunday's series finale in Philadelphia. The 28-year-old could be a long-relief option Sunday behind opener Steven Okert, though Bryan Hoeing is also an option to cover bulk innings.

  • Paul Sewald RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Paul Sewald: Secures 32nd save

Sewald picked up the save in Saturday's win over the Cubs, allowing one unearned run on one hit over one inning. He did not record any strikeouts or walks.

Sewald entered the game with a two-run lead in the bottom of the 10th and retired the first two batters before giving up an RBI single to Cody Bellinger to cut the lead to one run. The right-hander then got Dansby Swanson to foul out for the final out of the game, giving Sewald his fourth save this month. He's now converted 11 of his last 12 save opportunities, though he's failed to record a strikeout in three straight appearances.

  • Darius Vines SP | ATL

Braves' Darius Vines: Returns to Triple-A

Vines was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.

Vines was called up by Atlanta on Wednesday and will head back to the minors after he delivered three solid frames of long relief Saturday against Pittsburgh. The 25-year-old has pitched well in his three big-league appearances this season with a 3.27 ERA and 0.91 WHIP over 11 innings, so he could receive another look during the closing weeks of the season.

  • Kyle Finnegan RP | DET

Nationals' Kyle Finnegan: Blows eighth save

Finnegan gave up a run on a hit and two walks in the ninth inning Saturday to blow the save in an eventual 7-6 win for the Nationals. He struck out one.

Called upon to protect a 5-4 lead, Finnegan and batterymate Keibert Ruiz instead found themselves helpless to stop the Dodgers' running game. The three baserunners the right-hander put aboard swiped four bags between them, and it took a great defensive effort by Luis Garcia to escape the inning without further damage. Finnegan's had a rocky last few weeks, getting tagged for runs in six of his last 10 appearances, but while he's now blown eight of his 33 save chances on the season, this was his first since July 14. Hunter Harvey also coughed up two runs in the eighth, but he's been the more effective reliever of late and could reclaim his spot as the Nats' primary closer down the stretch.
