  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Red Sox's Matt Moore: On minor-league IL with sore arm

Moore has been placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Worcester due to left arm soreness, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

It's not clear at this point how long Moore might be sidelined. The veteran left-hander was in Red Sox camp as a non-roster invitee but failed to make the Opening Day roster, and he won't be an option for the big club for a while.

  • Brewers' Tyler Alexander: Sees action in opener

Alexander tossed a scoreless inning in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter.

Alexander did not have to wait long to make his first appearance with the Brewers, and he kept the opponent at bay with Milwaukee trailing 4-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. Alexander figures to primarily serve as a long reliever, but he did extend up to 70 pitches during spring training and could be a candidate for a spot start, as the Brewers opened the season with only three true traditional starting pitchers on the 26-man roster.

  • Justin Slaten RP | BOS

Red Sox's Justin Slaten: Notches save in opener

Slaten struck out one and didn't allow a baserunner in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Thursday against the Rangers.

Closer Aroldis Chapman entered for the eighth inning with the game tied 2-2, as the lefty-hitting Corey Seager was batting leadoff, opening up the ninth inning for Slaten after Boston took the lead. The right-hander recorded two saves and 13 holds with a 2.93 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 58:9 K:BB across 55.1 innings as a rookie last season, and he's one of the Red Sox's top relief arms again in 2025, even if Chapman is expected to be the primary closer early on.

  • Luke Jackson RP | SEA

Rangers' Luke Jackson: Handed loss on Opening Day

Jackson (0-1) took the loss Thursday against the Red Sox after surrendering three runs on two hits and a walk over one-third of an inning. He struck out one.

The right-hander entered for the top of the ninth inning with the game tied 2-2 and struck out Triston Casas to open the frame. Jackson then allowed a single and a walk before serving up a three-run homer to Wilyer Abreu. Jackson emerged as the apparent favorite for saves late in spring training, and though Thursday wasn't a save situation, his 2025 campaign is off to an inauspicious start. Chris Martin and Robert Garcia are also in the closer mix, and rookie Marc Church could also be involved in high-leverage spots.

  • T.J. McFarland RP | ATH

Athletics' T.J. McFarland: In setup mix

McFarland threw two-thirds of an inning with no hits or walks Thursday against the Mariners.

McFarland entered the game in the eighth inning after Jose Leclerc gave up two home runs and blew a one-run lead. McFarland put up a 3.81 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over 56.2 innings last year and tallied 19 holds. He could be a primary setup man for the A's alongside Leclerc, at least until Michel Otanez returns from a shoulder injury and is added to the mix.

  • Matt Strahm RP | KC

Phillies' Matt Strahm: Throws clean 10th inning in return

Strahm (shoulder) threw a clean 10th inning with one strikeout in Thursday's 7-3 extra-inning win over the Nationals.

Strahm was unable to make his scheduled appearance in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays due left middle fingernail irritation, but he returned to action Thursday to retire the side and safeguard the victory for the Phillies. The veteran southpaw was limited to 1.2 frames during spring training due to a left shoulder impingement, but he bounced back after giving up six runs in two spring appearances. Jordan Romano was charged with a blown save after yielding two runs in the eighth inning Thursday, which could leave the door open for Strahm to see the occasional save chance while Philadelphia's bullpen pecking order is uncertain.

  • Jose Leclerc RP | SD

Athletics' Jose Leclerc: Blows late lead in A's debut

Leclerc (0-1) blew the save and took the loss in Thursday's 4-2 loss against Seattle. He allowed three runs on two home runs and a walk while striking out one over one-third of an inning.

Leclerc was protecting a one-run lead in the eighth inning but needed 28 pitches to record just one out. Despite the setback, he may be the A's best setup man until Michel Otanez (shoulder) returns from the injured list.

  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Picks up save

Treinen allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two across a scoreless inning to earn the save Thursday against the Tigers.

Alex Vesia and Tanner Scott were called upon in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively, to face lefty-heavy portions of the Tigers' lineup. That left Treinen in line to get the save, though he allowed the tying runner to reach scoring position and needed 23 pitches to get the three outs. Scott figures to get the majority of save chances for the Dodgers moving forward, though he could continue to be used earlier in contests in high-leverage spots against elite left-handed hitters.

  • Ryan Helsley RP | BAL

Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Impressive in first save chance

Helsley struck out the side and allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Thursday against the Twins.

Helsley was called upon to protect a two-run lead and looked overpowering by touching 101 mph with his fastball to collect his first save of the season. He did surrender a two-out double to Harrison Bader to make things interesting, but Helsley proceeded to strike out Matt Wallner on four pitches to end the game. Helsley could be subject to trade rumors during the summer months, but he should be an elite closing option for the foreseeable future.

  • Griffin Jax SP | TB

Twins' Griffin Jax: Not sharp in regular season debut

Jax allowed a run on a home run and a walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning Thursday against the Cardinals.

Jax wasn't sharp in his first outing of the season as he was pulled after 21 pitches. Jax will reprise his late inning setup role again this season and should see some save chances when Jhoan Duran is used earlier in the game or unavailable.
