  • Dominic Leone RP | CHW

White Sox's Dominic Leone: Has UCL sprain, done for season

The White Sox diagnosed Leone with a UCL sprain in his right elbow and placed him on the 60-day injured list Friday.

Leone was lifted from Wednesday's game with soreness in his right elbow and further testing revealed he suffered a UCL sprain. Instead of attempting to rush him back during the closing weeks of a lost season, the White Sox opted to place Leone on the 60-day injured list, ending his 2024 campaign. The 32-year-old appeared in 23 games for Chicago, logging a 6.63 ERA and 17:14 K:BB across 19.0 innings. Matt Foster (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Matt Foster RP | CHW

White Sox's Matt Foster: Activated from IL

The White Sox reinstated Foster (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Friday.

Foster's lengthy recovery from Tommy John surgery in April 2023 is finally complete, as he joins the White Sox active roster Friday. The 27-year-old made 14 minor-league rehab appearances, 11 for Triple-A Charlotte, in which he logged a 2.31 ERA and 17 Ks across 11.2 innings. Dominic Leone (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Dedniel Nunez RP | NYM

Mets' Dedniel Nunez: Faces hitters, assignment nearing

Nunez (forearm) threw 20 pitches of live batting practice Friday and expects to begin a rehab assignment next, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.

Nunez went up against batters for the first time since being placed on the injured list July 26 and left the session without a setback. While it's unclear when he'll be shipped out for a minor-league rehab assignment, the 28-year-old expects a rehab stint to be the next step in his recovery from a strained right forearm.

  • Parker Dunshee RP | ATL

Braves' Parker Dunshee: Clears waivers, outrighted

Dunshee cleared waivers Friday and was outrighted to Triple-A Gwinnett, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Atlanta designated Dunshee for assignment Wednesday and after clearing waivers, the 29-year-old will return to Gwinnett. Dunshee has logged a 2.51 ERA across 32.1 innings at Triple-A but surrendered five runs in 2.1 innings during his MLB debut Aug. 8.

  • Beau Brieske RP | DET

Tigers' Beau Brieske: Serving as opener Friday

Brieske will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher in Friday's game against the Yankees, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

It's the third straight assignment as an opener for Brieske, and he went a combined 4.1 scoreless innings in the first two. The former starter is capable of going deeper into games than most openers, but the role still limits his fantasy utility. Brant Hurter is a likely candidate for bulk relief Friday.

  • Tim Mayza RP | PHI

Yankees' Tim Mayza: Set for Yankees debut

Mayza signed a major-league contract with the Yankees on Friday and was selected to the 26-man roster.

Mayza inked a minor-league deal with the Yankees on July 10 and has since been pitching for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, posting a 2.16 ERA across 8.1 innings. The left-hander shouldn't be expected to handle high-leverage work in what will be his first MLB action since being designated for assignment by the Blue Jays in late June.

  • Easton Lucas RP | TOR

Tigers' Easton Lucas: Dropped from 40-man roster

The Tigers designated Lucas for assignment Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Lucas will lose his spot on the 40-man roster with the Tigers selecting the contracts of Jace Jung and Trey Sweeney. Lucas hasn't pitched for Detroit since July 28. The 27-year-old has a 10.29 ERA in MLB this season but posted a 3.51 ERA across 33.1 innings with Triple-A Toledo, where he'll likely remain if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Red Sox's Brennan Bernardino: Serving as opener

Bernardino will start Friday's game against the Orioles, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

The 32-year-old will make his third start of the season but will only throw an inning or two. Cooper Criswell is expected to be activated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday to handle the bulk relief role in the contest. Bernardino has a 3.79 ERA with a 40:17 K:BB in 40.1 big-league innings.

  • Yimi Garcia RP | TOR

Mariners' Yimi Garcia: Gets 13th hold Thursday

Garcia recorded his 13th hold of the season in a loss to the Tigers on Thursday, allowing an earned run on a walk over two-thirds of an inning.

Garcia issued an inning-opening walk to Austin Meadows in the eighth inning before retiring the next two batters, but Andres Munoz then surrendered a two-run home run to Javier Baez that allowed Meadows to cross the plate. Garcia has been charged with a combined three earned runs over the last two days and five overall in his last five appearances, a stark contrast to the four straight scoreless one-inning outings with which he opened his Mariners tenure.

  • Tyler Ferguson RP | CHC

Athletics' Tyler Ferguson: Records first big-league win

Ferguson (1-1) got the win over the Mets on Thursday, allowing a hit and a walk over two scoreless innings. He struck out two.

Ferguson needed 44 pitches to get through his two frames after taking the mound to begin the fifth inning. The right-hander became the pitcher of record after the Athletics were able to take a one-run lead in the home half of the sixth, leading to Ferguson recording his first career win. He has put together six consecutive scoreless appearances after allowing a combined four runs over two innings in back-to-back outings July 30 and Aug. 2.
