Scott (7-5) was credited with the win against Pittsburgh on Wednesday despite allowing two runs (one earned) on no hits and three walks in one-third of an inning.

Scott entered with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning and got Oneil Cruz to ground out to preserve a 6-6 tie and send the game to an extra frame. After San Diego took a three-run lead in the top of the 10th, Scott returned but couldn't find the plate, walking three straight batters to force home a run. Adrian Morejon then took over and allowed an inherited runner to score on a wild pitch before finding a way out of the jam, notching his first save and handing Scott the victory. Despite the win, the outing was an uncharacteristically poor one for Scott, who threw only six of 18 pitches for strikes. He's given up three runs (two earned) over three appearances consisting of 2.2 frames since joining San Diego at the trade deadline but still has an impressive 1.49 ERA on the campaign.

Martinez is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Brewers in Milwaukee.

Martinez will be making his third straight turn through the rotation, but his second in a row as a traditional starter after he was previously deployed as a bulk reliever behind opener Tony Santillan on July 30 versus the Cubs. Though his numbers as a reliever this season have been much stronger than what he's turned in as a starter, Martinez might have delivered his best outing yet his last time out Monday, when he struck out five batters over five shutout innings to earn a win over the Marlins.

Francis came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Orioles, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out seven.

The right-hander put together one of his best performances of the year against a tough opponent, with the seven Ks tying his season high, and he shut down the O's after serving up a two-run shot to Anthony Santander in the first inning. Francis left the mound after 81 pitches (59 strikes) in line for his fifth win, but the Toronto bullpen fell apart late. Over the final weeks of the season, Francis will get a chance to establish himself as part of the Blue Jays' 2025 rotation plans, but his 5.44 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 49.2 big-league innings in 2024 aren't encouraging. He's scheduled to make his next start on the road early next week against the Angels.

Doval gave up a hit, a walk and a hit-by-pitch in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his 22nd save of the season in a 7-4 win over the Nationals.

The right-hander got into trouble by loading the bases with one out, but Doval coaxed a double-play grounder out of Alex Call to end the game. The Giants' closer has been shaky of late, posting a 5.68 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB in 6.1 innings over his last seven appearances, but he's still managed to successfully convert his last five save chances.

Faucher gave up a hit, a walk and a hit-by-pitch in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his second save of the season in a 6-4 win over the Reds.

The right-hander was far from dominant, needing 29 pitches (14 strikes) to get through the frame, but he escaped a bases-loaded jam by getting Jeimer Candelario to ground out. Faucher is getting the first chance to become the Marlins' new closer in the wake of the Tanner Scott trade, and he's been tagged for earned runs in only one of his last 11 appearances, posting a 2.31 ERA and 12:5 K:BB through 11.2 innings over that stretch despite a shaky 1.46 WHIP.

Cisnero (shoulder) tossed a scoreless inning during his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday.

Cisnero has been on the shelf since late April due to right shoulder inflammation but has finally been cleared to pitch in games. Given the length of his absence, the reliever is likely to require a handful of rehab appearances before rejoining the Angels' bullpen.

Diaz picked up the save in a win over the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing one run on one hit over one inning while striking out two.

Diaz entered the contest in the bottom of the ninth with a three-run lead and surrendered a leadoff triple to Michael Toglia on the first pitch he threw before then seeing the runner come home on a Jake Cave groundout two batters later. However, the veteran reliever was able to wrap things up with a swinging strikeout of Charlie Blackmon to end the game and secure his 14th save of the campaign. Diaz has now converted each of his last six save opportunities, posting multiple strikeouts in three of his last four appearances. However, he's also allowed a run in two of his last five outings.

Bednar blew a save opportunity against the Padres on Wednesday, giving up one run on one hit and one walk while striking out one batter over one inning.

Bednar entered in the top of the ninth frame with the Pirates clinging to a one-run lead. He retired one batter before Jackson Merrill knotted the score with a solo shot to center field. Bednar then got into more trouble with a hit-by-pitch and a walk, but he was able to bounce back with consecutive outs to send the game into an extra inning. The blown save was his first since April 9 and just his third in 23 chances this season. That's a perfectly acceptable save percentage, but Bednar hasn't been as sharp this year as in seasons past, as evidenced by his 5.17 ERA and 1.23 WHIP through 38.1 innings.

Morejon earned a save against the Pirates on Wednesday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work.

Robert Suarez has worked as the Padres' closer this season, but he was deployed in the ninth inning with the score tied Wednesday. The contest ended up going to an extra frame, and San Diego took the lead with a three-run top of the 10th. Recently acquired Tanner Scott was asked to preserve the lead in the bottom of the frame, but he walked three straight batters to force in a run before Morejon was called upon to clean up the mess. The southpaw's outing didn't begin well -- his first offering was a wild pitch that allowed another Pirate to cross the plate to make the score 9-8 -- but Morejon rebounded impressively, retiring the next three batters without allowing the tying run to score. As a reward, he earned his first career save in his 90th MLB appearance. Morejon has been a solid bullpen piece for the Padres this season, posting a 2.66 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 52:16 K:BB through 47.1 innings.

Fulmer allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out one batter over four innings in a no-decision in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Yankees.

Fulmer was staked to an early 6-0 lead that increased to 8-1 by the middle of the fourth, and he kept New York from drawing close enough to cause major concern. However, the right-hander didn't record any clean frames and allowed multiple hits in three of the four innings in which he took the mound, which drove up his pitch count and resulted in him getting pulled at 90 pitches after four frames. That prevented him from qualifying for the win, which instead went to reliever Hunter Strickland, who followed Fulmer with two scoreless innings. Fulmer has given up three or fewer runs in each of his five outings since moving into the rotation July 14, but he's finished fewer than five frames in three of those starts.
