Faedo (hip) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Faedo looks set to throw off a mound for the first time since he landed on the 15-day injured list last week with inflammation in his surgically-repaired right hip. He looks to be closing in on a rehab assignment and shouldn't need too many appearances before being activated since he hasn't missed extensive time.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday that Diaz (shoulder) will immediately become the team's closer upon his activation from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Diaz had been part of a committee at closer for the Mets prior to landing on the IL with a right shoulder impingement in late May. However, Mendoza is now ready to restore Diaz to his old role beginning with Thursday's contest against the Marlins. Diaz has converted four of his nine save chances this season while holding a 5.40 ERA and 30:7 K:BB over 20 innings.

The Marlins optioned Ramirez to Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

He'll cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to JT Chargois (neck), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Ramirez has been excellent out of the Marlins bullpen this season, allowing just one run with a 9:1 K:BB over 9.1 innings. He'll surely be back in the majors before long, but for now, Ramirez will report to Jacksonville.

Coulombe said Wednesday that he underwent an MRI on his left elbow but remains optimistic that he'll avoid an extended stay on the 15-day injured list, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Coulombe -- who was placed on the IL on Tuesday with left elbow inflammation -- had Tommy John surgery back in 2011 but noted that the pain he's currently experiencing is in a different area of the elbow. The results of his MRI aren't yet known, but the reliever seems confident that he'll be back in the Baltimore bullpen in relatively short order.

The Marlins activated Chargois (neck) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Chargois has been out all season with a neck issue and was pulled off his rehab assignment at one point because of a setback. He's ready to go now, though, after making eight scoreless appearances with Triple-A Jacksonville following the resumption of his rehab assignment. Chargois should eventually be used as a high-leverage reliever by Miami but could be eased into such situations.

Castro (shoulder) threw a 21-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.

He will throw another bullpen session Friday. Castro has been shelved since late April with right shoulder inflammation but would appear to be trending toward a rehab assignment sooner rather than later.

Estrada is dealing with an illness but believes he'll be available out of the bullpen Wednesday versus the Athletics, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Estrada went unused in Tuesday's 4-3 win because of the illness. The reliever said Wednesday that he's still a bit under the weather, but he thinks he's feeling well enough to give it a go, if needed. Estrada boasts a 43.2 percent strikeout rate across 18 appearances for the Padres this season.

The Mariners recalled de Geus from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

De Geus made four appearances out of the Seattle bullpen earlier this season, allowing one run over 3.1 innings. He'll likely be used mostly in low-leverage situations while he's up with the Mariners.

The Mariners optioned Diaz to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

Diaz made a spot start in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the White Sox in place of the injured Bryan Woo (arm), allowing three runs over 5.1 innings in a no-decision. Woo's status remains in limbo, and Diaz could be considered for a call-up if Woo ends up landing on the injured list before his next turn through the rotation comes up.

Kuhnel signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Tuesday.

Kuhnel was assigned to Triple-A Nashville after signing with Milwaukee, and the affiliate wasted little time in putting him to work. He appeared out of the bullpen Tuesday in Nashville's 13-9 loss to Gwinnett, covering one inning and striking out two while allowing two earned runs on two hits and one walk. Prior to joining Milwaukee, Kuhnel spent time in the big leagues this season with Houston, giving up four earned runs over two innings in his lone relief appearance.
