Winn allowed three runs on three hits and two walks, striking out five batters over four innings while notching a no-decision in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Colorado on Saturday.

All three runs Winn allowed scored on a third-inning, bases-clearing triple by Ezequiel Tovar. Though Winn has bounced between pitching as a traditional starter and a bulk reliever, his workload has been fairly consistent, as he's completed between four and six innings in seven of his eight appearances. The rookie right-hander has held his own in the majors thus far, posting a 3.89 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB over 37 frames.

Vest allowed a hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Saturday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Angels.

Vest extended his scoreless streak to 8.2 innings with this effort, which came after Alex Lange blew a save chance in the ninth inning. This was Vest's first save of the season and the second of his career. He's added 10 holds, a 3.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 48:13 K:BB through 42 innings this season, operating in a somewhat high-leverage setup role at times.

Lange (7-4) allowed three runs on three hits and struck out two over one inning, taking a blown save but earning the extra-inning win over the Angels on Saturday.

Lange served up a two-run home run to Jared Walsh and a solo shot to Brett Phillips, squandering a three-run lead in the ninth inning. The Tigers pulled ahead again in the 10th, and Lange ended up with the win when Will Vest closed out the contest. Lange has surrendered multiple runs just twice in 24 appearances in the second half, giving up 11 runs (nine earned) over 23.1 innings in that span. He's posted a 3.90 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 73:43 K:BB while going 23-for-28 in save chances and adding five holds over 60 innings this season.

Holmes pitched one perfect inning to secure a save during Saturday's 6-3 win over the Pirates.

After firing off a perfect ninth frame Friday night for his 20th save of 2023, Holmes delivered another clean inning Saturday for save No. 21, setting a career high in the category and besting his 2022 total. The 30-year-old has yet to allow a run in September and has locked up five saves over eight appearances.

Clase picked up the save Saturday against Texas. He allowed one hit and struck out one over a scoreless inning.

Clase now owns four more saves than any other closer in baseball with 41 despite having blown two of his last five save opportunities. The 25-year-old has solidified himself as one of baseball's best ninth-inning arms, having corralled 40 or more saves in back-to-back seasons while owning a career ERA of 1.92.

Alzolay (forearm) played catch Saturday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Alzolay hit the injured list Monday with a right forearm strain, an injury that's potentially quite worrisome for a pitcher. The righty, who's saved 22 games for the Cubs this season, certainly isn't out of the woods yet, but the fact that he's already throwing again so soon after the injury is an encouraging sign. Julian Merryweather and Michael Fulmer have each earned a save in Alzolay's absence, but Fulmer is now on the injured list with a forearm strain of his own.

Kauffmann was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque after the Rockies' 9-5 win over the Giants in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader.

Kauffmann was called up ahead of the day game, pitching four innings in relief of opener Brent Suter. The right-hander earned the win, allowing one unearned run on two hits and three walks while striking out four. Matt Carasiti was recalled from Albuquerque to replace Kauffmann in Colorado's bullpen prior to the nightcap.

Carasiti was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque prior to Game 2 of the Rockies' doubleheader with the Giants.

Carasiti will join Colorado after they defeated San Francisco 9-5 in the day game. The right-hander will replace Karl Kauffmann in the bullpen as the latter heads to Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Carasiti has produced an inflated 7.06 ERA over 21.2 innings in 14 appearances with the Rockies this year.

Romero (knee) is still dealing with weakness and instability in his left knee but will throw a bullpen session Sunday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Romero hit the injured list with left patellar tendinitis in early September. The fact that he's ready to throw a bullpen session suggests he has plenty of time to return before the end of the year, though the Cardinals have no incentive to rush him given that they've long since fallen out of the playoff picture.

Cimber (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Cimber didn't perform particularly well in his first rehab appearance, giving up a run on a pair of hits in his lone inning of work, but the Blue Jays will be happy to see him back on the mound after nearly a three-month absence due to a shoulder strain. The length of his absence likely means his rehab assignment won't be a short one.
