Brent Honeywell RP | LAD
Athletics' Brent Honeywell: Two-inning rehab outing Friday
Honeywell (elbow) started Single-A Stockton's win over Lake Elsinore on Friday, allowing an earned run on three hits and a walk over two innings. He struck out one.
Honeywell encouragingly worked up to 31 pitches, 22 which found the strike zone, after topping out at 14 offerings in his rehab debut Tuesday. Assuming the right-hander experiences no residual setbacks from the increase in workload, he's slated to move his rehab assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas next week, as per previous reports.

Nick Mears RP | KC
Pirates' Nick Mears: Activated and optioned
Mears (elbow) was activated off the 60-day injured list Saturday and optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Mears has been out all year after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow in early February. He's been pitching in the minors on a rehab assignment since late May, with a month-long disruption in the middle due to forearm tightness, and he'll remain in the minors for now.

Beau Brieske RP | DET
Tigers' Beau Brieske: Playing catch
Brieske (forearm/biceps) is playing catch and doing well, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Brieske has been out since mid-July, first with forearm soreness and then with biceps tendinitis. He'll have the chance to return in September if he continues to trend in the right direction.

Brusdar Graterol RP | LAD
Dodgers' Brusdar Graterol: Return pushed to Monday
Graterol (shoulder) is expected to be activated from the 15-day IL on Monday versus Milwaukee, Sarah Wexler of MLB.com reports.
There was originally a plan in place for Graterol to return to the Dodgers this weekend versus Miami, but he was first supposed to make back-to-back appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City. That didn't happen because Thursday's contest was rained out, so the fireballing reliever will instead be activated Monday. Graterol has made four rehab appearances with OKC, striking out four batters over 3.2 scoreless innings.

Clay Holmes SP | CHC
Yankees' Clay Holmes: Plays catch
Holmes (back) played catch Saturday for the first time since he hit the injured list, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.
Holmes landed on the injured list Wednesday due to back spasms, but he's already able to throw again just three days later. That suggests his absence may not stretch much past the minimum 15 days, something the Yankees suggested was a possibility when he first hit the injured list.

Chris Martin RP | TEX
Dodgers' Chris Martin: Records win in relief
Martin (4-0) earned the win over Miami on Friday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work.
Dodgers starter Tyler Anderson was impressive with seven innings of one-run ball, but Los Angeles could manage only one run of their own while he was in the game. Martin took over on the mound in the eighth inning and threw 13 of 16 pitches for strikes to retire the side in order, and he was credited with the win as a result of the Dodgers scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the frame. Since joining Los Angeles in a July 30 trade, Martin has posted a 2.16 ERA, 0.48 WHIP and 10:0 K:BB over 8.1 innings while picking up three wins and one hold.

Scott Barlow RP | ATH
Royals' Scott Barlow: Earns win Friday
Barlow (5-4) allowed a hit and struck out two over two scoreless innings to earn the extra-inning win Friday over the Rays.
Barlow's lone hit allowed came in the ninth inning, as Taylor Walls singled but was thrown out trying to advance to second. In the 10th, Barlow got more help from his defense, as initial runner Roman Quinn was caught attempting to steal third base. The tidy outing was Barlow's seventh scoreless one in August -- he's allowed just one run with a 12:2 K:BB through 10 innings this month. The Royals' closer has a 2.18 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB while adding 19 saves and five holds through 57.2 innings.

Aroldis Chapman RP | BOS
Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Wild again Friday
Chapman allowed a run on one hit and two walks over one-third of an inning against Toronto on Friday.
Chapman entered in the ninth inning with New York down by three runs, so his struggles didn't do much to impact the outcome of the game. Nonetheless, it's discouraging that the veteran fireballer was unable to find the strike zone -- he threw just five of 14 pitches over the plate and walked the final two batters he faced to load the bases. Chapman was presumed to be in line to regain his closing role when Clay Holmes (back) moved to the injured list Aug. 16, but since that time Chapman has walked four batters and given up three runs over one inning across two appearances. He hasn't been used in a save situation, but it wouldn't be surprising if Scott Effross is called upon the next time a closer is needed given Chapman's ugly past two outings.

Keegan Thompson RP | COL
Cubs' Keegan Thompson: Lands on 15-day IL with back issue
Thompson was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with lower-back tightness, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
He gave up five earned runs in 3.2 innings Friday against the Brewers and was also chased early in his previous start against the Reds. However, Thompson had been quite effective for a stretch from mid-June until early-August, when he logged a 3.06 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 47 strikeouts in 50 innings across nine starts. He is eligible to return Sept. 6.

Wil Crowe RP | PIT
Pirates' Wil Crowe: Picks up win
Crowe (5-7) allowed one hit and struck out one across 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the win Friday against the Reds.
Crowe entered the game in the eighth inning with runners on first and second and allowed an inherited runner to score, which gave the Reds the lead. However, he threw a clean ninth inning and the Pirates rallied for a walk-off victory to give Crowe his fifth win of the season. Crowe has only one save since David Bednar (back) landed on the injured list, though he has picked up a pair of wins across his last five appearances. For the season, Crowe has maintained a 3.27 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with a 59:26 K:BB across 63.1 frames.
