  • Ryan Weber RP | NYY

Yankees' Ryan Weber: Back with New York

Weber signed a minor-league deal with the Yankees on Wednesday and will report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports.

The veteran right-hander recently elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Yankees, but he's quickly back with the organization. Weber allowed one earned run over 3.2 frames during his lone big-league outing of the season, and he has a 2.95 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 15:1 K:BB over 21.1 innings at the Triple-A level.

  • Gabe Speier RP | SEA

Royals' Gabe Speier: Returns to minors

Speier was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.

Speier returned from the COVID-19 injured list last week and will now head back to the minors. The left-hander has a 2.33 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB over 19.1 innings this season for the Royals, so it should only be a matter of time before he's back in the majors.

  • Elvis Peguero RP | CHW

Angels' Elvis Peguero: Back in big leagues

Peguero was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

The 25-year-old made two appearances for the Angels in early May and will now rejoin the major-league club. Peguero surrendered three runs over 1.1 innings between those two outings, but he's pitched better at Triple-A with a 3.55 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 33:5 K:BB across 25.1 innings.

  • Jimmy Herget RP | COL

Angels' Jimmy Herget: Out with shoulder injury

Herget was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right shoulder impingement.

Herget presumably picked up the injury during Tuesday's matchup with the Royals when he allowed two runs on one hit and a walk over one inning. It's not believed to be a serious issue, but the right-hander won't be eligible to be activated until July 7.

  • Albert Abreu RP | CIN

Yankees' Albert Abreu: Set to join major-league bullpen

The Yankees activated Abreu on Thursday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Abreu was claimed off waivers from the Royals on Tuesday, and he'll join the Yankees' major-league bullpen ahead of their weekend series against Houston. The right-hander has posted a 3.46 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in 13 innings over 11 relief appearances with the Rangers and Royals this year. Clarke Schmidt was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to open up a spot on the 26-man active roster for Abreu.

  • Yimi Garcia RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Dealing with left side discomfort

Garcia wasn't available during Wednesday's win over the White Sox due to left side discomfort, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Garcia tossed a scoreless inning during Tuesday's win over the White Sox, but he's apparently dealing with a side issue following the outing. The Blue Jays have a scheduled day off Thursday, and the right-hander will be re-evaluated ahead of Friday's series opener against Milwaukee.

  • Tyler Matzek RP | NYY

Braves' Tyler Matzek: Closing in on rehab assignment

Manager Brian Snitker said Wednesday that Matzek (shoulder) is on the cusp of beginning a rehab assignment, Maria Torres of The Athletic reports.

Matzek landed on the injured list with left shoulder inflammation in mid-May and was shut down for several weeks prior to beginning a throwing program in early June. The southpaw is slated to throw a side session in the coming days and will likely be cleared to join a minor-league affiliate if he feels good afterward.

  • Oliver Ortega RP | NYM

Angels' Oliver Ortega: Up with big-league club

Ortega was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Ortega was demoted after giving up five runs (one earned) over two innings during his last appearance for the Angels on June 11, and he'll return to the majors ahead of Wednesday's matchup with the Royals. The 25-year-old has appeared in 20 big-league games this year and has a 3.81 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB over 26 innings.

  • Nick Mears RP | KC

Pirates' Nick Mears: Managing right forearm tightness

Mears (elbow) is dealing with right forearm tightness following Wednesday's rehab start at Triple-A Indianapolis, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Mears has been recovering from right elbow surgery since mid-March and appeared to be closing in on a return from the injured list prior to Wednesday's outing, but it's concerning to see him dealing with a forearm issue. The Pirates haven't yet determined the next steps in his recovery process, but he'll likely be monitored in the coming days.

  • Erik Swanson RP | TOR

Mariners' Erik Swanson: Right back on track in return

Swanson, who fired a scoreless eighth inning during which he recorded a strikeout in a win over the Athletics on Tuesday, has put together four perfect frames and 5:0 K:BB across four appearances since his return from the injured list.

Swanson has been even better than immediately prior to suffering an elbow injury in early May, as he'd given up his first two runs of the season in his most recent two appearances at that point. He's bounced right back with a quartet of spotless efforts after spending exactly a month out of major-league game action, giving manager Scott Servais a versatile valued option for all manner of relief scenarios.
